matt williams in high cap league?

PostSun Mar 29, 2015 5:13 pm

I have almost no experience playing in $150+ mil leagues. Does Matt Williams perform at those caps? He'd be playing in Hilltop. Or would someone like the new Rosen be a better option?

Call me naive but I don't hold much stock in the cap theory...If the rolls are on Williams card it makes no differnce if he is playing 60m up to unlimited...having said that I would platoon him with a Thome like and you will be very happy.......

Williams is more effective against lefties than Rosen in Hilltop. He should be platooned if playing in that park unless you
have Schmidt. Questions like this can be resolved best by using Diamond Dope (for hitting) adjusted by offense/defense
strat(for fielding).

Williams in hi-cap leagues ($140M, $150M or unlimited)?

It all depends on your team. If you need HRs, do not have a lot of extra money, expect to face some LHs and are playing in a hitters park, then he can be adequate.

In hi-cap leagues most hitters performance is going to be based upon the hitters card, so expect Williams to have sub .200 BA and sub .250 OBP but 50+ HRs and about 20 errors.

Suggest in hi cap leagues you focus on OBP and power. So if you have Aaron, Mays, Hartnett, McCovey type guys, who are awesome players, but have sub standard OBP, Williams is probably not the guy.

Here is Williams on a $140M team. He did what I wanted, hit a lot of HRs and played good defense. But the BA and the OBP was ugly.

I saw some numbers from another $140M league where he was about the same, good HR power, good defense but lousy BA and OBP.

Best of luck!

I used '94 him in a $100m in Wrigley.

Due to the limited funds I played him 100% and while I agree that at higher caps a platoon is probably most effective he still hit 25 HR's vs R for me. If you can surround him with OBP guys he should produce well against both R and L.

The other question is what do the other ballparks look like. Another thing I like about Williams is he hits a good chunk of his HR's naturally (AKA no BP HR needed), crazy amounts against L but decent HR's against R too. So you don't necessarily need a HR friendly park for him to add pop to your lineup.

Good Luck

Williams full time at $145 million .. a lot like the others here, lots of HR's, Good D and allows for money to be spent elsewhere ..

I can't believe this is actually a thread.

Vinnie nails it and most of the other responses are just superfluous and/or restate the obvious.
