Game result, SOM's explanation - why do we still play ?

PostThu Apr 02, 2015 11:05 am

I'm in a pennant race, every game counts - this happens.

http://onlinegames.strat-o-matic.com/game/426008/936

Adams comes in due to Wilhelm being pulled for a PH - Adams has NO ROLES on my team other than a rotation starter and he pitched the day before. So he comes in at F0. I know my bullpen was lean at that point but SOM's explanation is that when looking to starters for relief, the most expensive one is the one picked. Jones and Hall would have both been a better choice than Adams.

And what about Adams getting rocked ? I was also under the impression that when fatigued, a few outs turn to hits, but it seems to me the game engine is just saying, when a fatigued pitcher is in the game, let's just always make the result land on hitters card.

I also have all of my hitters marked to do not remove for a PH. Of course, I don't have that choice for pitchers. I had Wilhelm marked for slow hook, do not remove before F7, etc - he gets pulled anyway.

Why cant we consider the fatigue level a player might come in at instead of "highest salary" ? Wouldn't I want ANY players over a fatigued player ? heck KEEGAN would have been a better choice in this situation. I also want to check off for PITCHERS for DONT PH for. Why cant I just have check boxes for all players including pitchers if I absolutely detest PH coming in and ruining my pitcher settings ?

With lack of control in situations like this, I think it's time to hang them up and move on to Bocce ball or something. I just get so tired of these results making this game a farce.

That is an awfully tough pill to swallow and it happens w-a-y too much......We knew as we rushed out bpv2 that it needed more work, Bernie agreed..but since it was almost a year in the works already, he didn't feel we could continue to work on it...We need bpv3 (among other fixes) desperately!!!!!!

I think the best answer is netplay. But as long as we play here, some of the bullshit can be minimized by only using dh's, which seems to limit HAL's mismanagement opportunities somewhat. Good luck with the rest of your season, if you win will this be your first ring?

I'd have better chances of winning the lottery than winning here "by my skillful team management" due to HAL mismanagement. Oh wait, I've never won a credit by the lottery either.

What exactly is "net play"?

In the computer game you can play live on the net, just like you were face to face.

You know whats funny- is that although Ive won credits the regular way-
I've also never won the lottery.

I do think that when Hal makes decisions like the one you describe- which happens to all of us-
it can be a real bummer.

As Nev, and others are saying- we really need a bullpen 3; I mean designated set-up men per side is kind of important.
we also desperately need to be able to control things like defensive replacements separated Right and Lefty too for example.
I mean its just the sorts of stuff that are good manager type decisions- which makes actually playing out the season a hair more fun.

Tell me, Sir Moose. How many of the games that your team won to put itself in contention were influenced by boneheaded HAL moves for your opponent? That sword cuts both ways, but it's so easy to forget the times HAL handed us a win.

As for a better CM, I am in 4 offline leagues, using the current game. The CM in that version let you do all the things you guys are wishing for. It it takes about 4 hours per team to set the thing up.

If they ever implement it here, I'm done. It's only bearable in offline leagues because you don't have a lot of teams.

And don't say you won't take that much time to set up your CM. You will, because you will be afraid that you won't be competitive if you don't.

Same thing happened to me last night! 5 runs in the top of the ninth, rally started by Dale Murray in relief, the rest of the bullpen floundered. They couldn't find home plate even if they had ruby red slippers on and a Garmin GPS.

Can't say I've never been the beneficiary of rallies in the ninth too. It happens.

Sincerely,

I've come to accept HAL for who he is and just try to minimize the effect of his rogue decisions. It does seem however like a pretty straightforward fix to decrease a cards value in relation to their fatigue rating for purpose of choosing a reliever. HAL could still choose the 'highest' value pitcher.
