I just signed up for the tournament, but I've never played any 20XX game. Part of me knows that I'm going to get killed and part of me wants the free tickets. I play the mystery game format a lot and I used to play the 1969 set when that was on-line. Given that, is there anything I need to know to play the 2014 game? I saw a thread discussing a complex formula for determining player value, but is there a list of undervalued players? For example, in the '69 set, Woodie Held and Jim Hicks were cheap but good players that were, in reality, nothing more than marginal players in the real '69 season.

Franky,

First, welcome!

Second, I don't play the Mystery Game format, but if my understanding is correct, the procedures as far as buying and entering a team are the same for 20xx.

It wouldn't be appropriate to start an advice thread here, but there is always tons of useful advice and managers willing to help you in other threads on the boards. If you do a little surfing, you might find answers you're looking for.

Also, if you can fill a league before midnight tonite, you can have a two week look at 2014 up close. If not, you can at least get a week's worth if you join a league before next Friday.

Good luck to you!

Seems reasonable to me.

Thank you, sir.

I plan on making the change officially, so last call for someone that sees a reason we should not add the Semi-Finals point totals to the overall point totals (for Finals draft seeding)...

Edits were made to the rules posted on page one to reflect the addition of accumulated semi-finals points to the manager's overall points total from the qualifying rounds.

Thinking out loud (?) here...

There are eight days until the first deadline to change start dates. We can have anywhere from zero to a hundred new sign ups on the official sheet in those coming eight days.

The situation that is developing is that the second start date is currently undersubscribed. No one wants to see any league that is populated by a majority of "fillers", not to mention how difficult it might be to find those fillers.

How can we best find volunteers to wait for the second start date? Would it be easiest maybe to edit your own sign ups and place an asterisk ( * ) after your name if you can play in either league? I'm trying to avoid the situation where we need a bunch of fillers for week one and a bunch of additional fillers for week two. Let's say we have 96 sign ups. We then need no fillers, but I will need the flexibility to move x number of managers to the second start date. If we have 97 sign ups we need eleven fillers. I would prefer to find one filler each for 11 leagues than assign 11 fillers to one league.

Thoughts, anyone?

I am usually an easy mark good for a couple of extra wins for someone. I can play in the second week instead of the first.

Thank you Frank. We're actually pretty close to 12 now for the second week, thanks to several PMs. I'll keep taking volunteers though, as there are still a few spaces left (depending on what happens with sign-ups over the next eight days).

SOM will be sending out a full bore email advertisement for the 2015 Tour Championship on Easter Sunday to everyone on the entire Strat mailing list. We'll see if we hang around nine week one leagues or blast through that with a bunch of last minute entrants directed to the Tour.

We're getting close now, people...

Not that I'll be in it, but the championship league says unleashed.
