What the HAL???

PostFri Apr 10, 2015 12:56 pm

Seriously HAL? I know that I have Mickey Cochrane set to be replaced for defensive purposes, but you would think that the game engine would be smart enough to NOT REMOVE HIM when his backup (Charlie Berry) is hurt and replace him with ... Wait for it ... EDDIE JOOST!!!

Kind of a flaw in the logic don't you think?

Seems to me that an injury to the defensive sub should negate the replace for defensive purposes function ...

Agree 100%. I'm not a programmer, but this would be the easiest possible thing to fix even using BASIC! "If remove for sub is checked, goto roster and search for another with a rating at that position; if there is no such player, do not remove for sub." Seriously, all they have to do is find the line of code that applies the checkbox on "remove," and write one more line of code right after it.

Can I ask why you have Cochrane to remove for defensive purposes? The only thing I can figure is you want to limit his opportunities to be injured, but he's bulletproof with your sub C injured.

If you only want Berry to replace Cochrane you put Berry in the TEAM settings as defensive sub for catcher. Marking remove for defensive sub will make HAL take the player out no matter what and look for best defensive sub of available players. Maybe ok if you have a "4" in your outfield and a few "2" 's as subs but not good in this case. But removing Cochrane doesn't make much sense to me for a defensive substitute.

The point is, Joost isn't a catcher. Am I missing something? HAL: do NOT remove for sub if no sub available at that position.

The way that I understand the game engine to work is in line with gkhd11a.

Uncheck the "Remove for def sub with lead" and place Berry as the backup on the team preferences, that's how the settings will give you the substitution you are looking for. I switched to these settings a while back when it was suggested on another thread and the results have been consistent.

And yes I agree, crappy programming ;-)

Exactly! Don't want to lose him long term. Plus, Berry commits less errors overall.

You learn something new everyday ... I did not know HAL would do it unless it was marked in the team settings.

Thanks Charlie!
