This is a little off the topic of the draft, but not too far. It would make this process a lot easier. Why can't SOM have more Negro Leagers? Why can't we get more added to the set so we can have an all Negro League - league. For instance I have a Negro League set for another game and it has some different players That SOM doesn't have such as: Jesse Barbour, Lyman Bostock Sr., Piper Davis, Howard Easterling, Joe Green, Gentry Jessup, Lefty LaMarque, and Luis Tiant Sr. And I probably missed a few. My point, is of course, that there are many more Negro Leagers and they could be added. Food for thought.

SOM is, rightly, proud of their statistical accuracy. I don't think that the publicly available information is up to their standard, particularly as to L-R info. Fielding data is also more than a little spotty.

Also note that the NeL's were a little top-heavy with talent. Many teams had regulars who hit below the Mendoza line.

PARAMETERS: Draft any players carded between 1920-1955, cheaper than 10m (after RD 1), and NOT listed as NeL (like Banks, Mays, Aaron etc). • $100 mil cap; NO DH • $23 mil min must be used for all Bench, Relievers and 5th SP (even after dropping down to 24 if desired), which will leave $77 mil max for your 4 other SP’s and 8 Starting Position players. • Relief pitchers must cost $2.73 mil or less • Only two Bench players below $1.5 mil allowed • All SP on MLB teams must be greater than $3 mil.

I, for one, don't want any more NeL cards. I wish we had a MLB-only option that would take only MLB cards from 1894 or 1901 on, with another Unleashed option that included NeL cards and these pre-1900 cards that we seem to be intent on adding. But that's just grumpy old traditionalist me. 8-)

Andy: I agree with you 100%. I said long ago that SOM should have little toggle boxes for the era of cards league creators want to include in their league. The only reason we have cards that go back so far is that certain big spending veteran players like small ball and there were few SS or 2nd basemen capable of batting leadoff, so they scoured the record books and we now have just about every 2nd baseman or SS pre 1900 who ever had a season with an OBP above .400. About the only guy missed was George Davis from the 1890s, who, btw, was reputed to be a fabulous fielder.

I have long been critical of how SOM rammed the NeL down our throats in the post WWII era. The NeL players belong to the post WWII era about as much as Ruth and Hornsby do. But like in MLB, hitting sells and the NeL players hit well, maybe a bit too well IMHO. When I play, I like to play with the guys who I grew up with or ATGs, not a bunch of players I've never heard heard of.

And more support for Andy's idea. I would also make the cutoff 1894, since that was the first season of 60'-6" and 4 balls 3 strikes.

Oh, rburgh, you took lanier's namesake! What kind of guy would do that? ;)

You know that you've been playing this game too long when you know the picks before the other manager makes them!
