Based on your advanced/standard league type question I am assuming when you say getting back in to strat after long absence you mean you were involved at some prior time with the board game or the cdrom game. But are new to the online game.
If that is accurate I would encourage you to hit the strategy forums hard. Logic is you may find the best concentration of online based advice there than other places in the forums. There are a number of ways the online differs and I am always surprised at how often people who have been online for years misunderstand details of how the online game works.
