We're halfway there!

Just for some reminder and supplementary information, the free agent pool that the franchises can draw from for that one free agent is comprised of the following teams: Rays, Diamondbacks, Rockies, Marlins, Blue Jays, Angels and all NeL players.

couple of questions mrharryc:

How is it determined which manager has which franchise combo?

And is the supplemental FA draft before the autodraft? (OK - sorry - saw the answer to this one - prior to the autodraft!)

Ok - three.......if the first rights team doesn't select a multi-team-carded player in the autodraft, is he eligible in the subsequent waivers or free agent period to one of the teams that also has a card for him? e.g.,..Bonds, McGwire, Hornsby, eligible to the Pirates, A's, Cubs, respectively, if they're not selected in the initial autodraft?

To answer Musial's questions...

1. Franchise selection will be based on random draw; I'll ask for random numbers once league is full. Since there seems to be different methods of randomization, we'll use the following: one set of random numbers will be generated; they will be assigned to owners in the order of sign-up, so the first number will be mine, the second drfreeze's etc. Then we'll draft franchises based on the draft order.

2. Yes, we'll draft the one free agent by ILC prior to auto draft.

3. If a player belongs to one of the league franchise group (primary or infusion squad) and is not placed on the draft card by the owner of that franchise, he then becomes eligible for anyone in the post-draft free agent period. This is an important note that I'll reiterate before we go to the auto draft; if you own a premium player you must put him on your draft card or risk losing him.

Just so we are clear, the post draft free agent pool is comprised only of unselected eligible players, and there are no card restrictions? Thus, for example, Jimmy Foxx will not be making an appearance because the A's are an infusion team, but on the other hand, if the Giants do not take Bonds, he can be picked by anyone post-draft, not just the Pirates?????

Additional Questions: Are there limits on the number of post-draft free agents on a team? What about Frank Robinson...his high $ card is Baltimore post...so does he belong to Cincy?

Steve, that is correct. If Bonds is left off the Giants card and/or Hornsby is left of the Cards draft, they are free game to any of the franchises in the league.

Going further, since you mentioned Foxx, I will clarify which players will not be eligible for franchise rosters under any circumstances, pre or post draft; these would be players, like Foxx or Simmons, whose card, or whose highest salary card, belong to one of the 12 infusion teams and are described by Strat as coming from either the DB, pre or post team rosters. This includes players from the Phillies, the Athletics, the Senators and the Browns who are pre-expansion.

This means some great and popular players like the above mentioned, along with players like Sisler and Walter Johnson will be ineligible. This is necessary to make the pairings more fair, because to include all eras from teams that have pre-expansion rosters would have given their squads an unfair advantage over primary franchises whose partners only have one era to drawn upon.

Another good question, Steve. Franchises are limited to one free agent when we begin play and at all times during the season. Post draft, a team may swap out their current free agent -or select one if they haven't already - as long as the player is eligible (coming from the FA pool described earlier, or was an eligible player from the primary franchise team and was left off of the draft card.) Since Frank Robinson's high card belongs to the Orioles post-war roster, he remains the property of that team and does not belong to the Reds and in fact cannot be used by anyone else; he falls into the same category as Simmons, Foxx, etc. Since highest salary determines ownership in this league, a player's cards for other franchises is irrelevant.

Just to further illustrate the point; if Bonds is left off of the Giants draft card and the Pirates claim him on waivers, he is eligible for them but as the team's free agent, not as a Bucco.

Also, a franchise owning a player may utilize any of that player's card years, regardless of which team he played for that year; using Bonds as an example, the Giants could use his Pirates card.
