First forgive some of the weird English in my last post my phone's auto correct was doing its thing. Second please give me your evidence that most players don't play real teams. Are you in the SOMworld Facebook group or the Strat-o-magic Facebook book group? I am and see everyday guys posting about their replays of this season or that season, asking questions about where to find info for lineups etc. so their replays can be historically accurate. You are right here in online Strat works we don't play complete teams. But to say others do 't or that's it's a tiny minority is not accurate from the evident e I've seen.

As for clutch have 't you noticed guys hat have high hit counts on their cards or put simply, guys wig high batting averages tend to lose in there clutch way more than gain? (There are exceptions of course, always are). And guys with low batting average but high rbi totals van in the clutch ( the infamous Pedro Feliz card from 2003 or 2004 is a perfect example)

I know I'll never convince you your view is incorrect if nothing else you've proven time and again you'll defend your position to the hilt. So you keep believing what you want and I'll keep believing what I want. With both be happier that way. ;-)

Steve and Niners, I agree, the "As-Played" feature in the CDROM game is very popular. The CDROM updates include changes to fine tune the as-played rosters and lineups because it is used enthusiastically by so many managers. I really enjoy the as-played option for replaying World Series match-ups.

1. I never said most managers don't play real teams. That's a false straw man of your creation. I said many managers don't; and they don't. That also wasn't my main point. My main correct point is you have no evidentiary or syllogistic support for your claim SOM alters its players' defense ratings to replicate team results. So that claim is still supposition.

2. None of the suppositions you offered in any way supports your claim SOM had to alter full players' cards to non-clutch for rib reasons. They're just interesting suppositions.

3. Actually, you defend your positions "to the hilt." I just logically defend mine. I do, however, believe we should just keep to our beliefs and not bring up the subject again.

I think this is great. Of course fine-tuning as-played rosters does not, in any way, mean SOM alters its players' individual defense ratings to replicate team defense results.

I'm showing my age, but back when Pete Rose played the OF--he made all kinds of diving catches like that video--Ernie Johnson--the Braves radio man, a Boston/Milwaukee Braves pitcher also--said Aaron got there and was waiting for ball on most of those type plays, and couldn't understand why everyone though Rose was a great OF.

SOM rated him a 1 every year till he moved to 3B

I agree. I saw Rose play quite a bit too, and his fielding never shouted "1" to me either.

I thought I posted here earlier but do not see it now. Must not have submitted. Pillar is probably a victim of reputation. Strat's defensive ratings in the early days were based solely on reputation. With the advanced fielding the E rating was more stat based but the range rating I am certain is still at least partially reputation based. Until a player has been around long enough or played in a large media market that gets national attention for the player so he can get a reputation he frequently does not get the rating he deserves during early career. On the declining side of their careers players often benefit from better rankings than they deserve because their skills decline before their reputation does. A classic example in my mind was Jeter who got better ratings for several years late in career than actual play warranted.
