Actually, I'm embarrassed to say that I discovered the root of the problem, and it's my own doing.
Contrary to my memory, I had actually entered Mookie Betts into my reverse balance righty lineup as the lead off hitter.
Because I had entered something in the lead-off spot, but left the rest blank, Hal is essentially being instructed to fill in the rest of the lineup for any game where I'm facing a reverse balance right handed pitcher, like Anibal Sanchez is.
Therefore, Hal was actually following my instructions.
Sorry guys, I missed that. It explains everything that happened in game 111, and the prior games.
In the end, it's actually fairly clever - although if I meant to do it, I'd forgotten it. It means that Hal can decide who to put in versus a reverse balance right handed pitcher - which means that Hal can distinguish on his own, as to how to deal with a 9L RHP versus a modestly reverse balance 2L or 1L.
As my British father often says, "As you were".
