For your amusement

PostThu May 07, 2015 2:59 pm

I knew what to expect and I wasn't disappointed. A 108 win team with a +167 diff - easily the most dominant team I've ever had. Playing a 84 win team in the semi-finals and was 8-4 against them during the season.

You guessed it - blown out in 5 games.

The curse of the 100+ win team.

It really is amazing how many times a seemingly dominate team falls in the playoffs.

Of course were they that dominate because of a lack of stiff competition in their division, which gets exposed in the playoffs??

Don't know if that's always the case but man it sure is amazing to see it happen time, after time, after time.

I feel your pain ... sort of. I've never had a 108-win team, but I did have a 97-win team last year (also in Great American) that I rested my starters for the last three series to try and avoid injury and, yep, lost in the first round in 6 games. A bunch of HR hitters who pretty much went flat when the real lights came on.

I almost dread the thought of having a 100-win team with all the horror stories I've heard ... although I'm sure it would be fun during the regular season!

I've never had a 108-game-winning team, but I have had a 106-game-winning team swept in the Finals and have had other 100-game-winning teams eliminated from the playoffs as well. It's not fun. Obviously there are many factors playing into this, the most impactful being the short "sample size" of the 7-game series; the other--as a previous poster mentioned--being the possible inequitable competition levels of each team's division rivals.

Both of those factors were probably amplified by the fact your team was in a franchise theme league, where particularly unusual and unique teams are playing against each other. There could be a possibly greater disparity in quality between various teams since managers aren't as free to use their "abilities" to choose their teams.

Anyway, the best remedy for the "pain" is remembering you benefit as much--if perhaps a bit more or less--from luck in SOM as you suffer from it. It just both hurts and is more apparent in such frustrating moments.

For every 100+ Win team I've had swept in the semis, I've probably had an equal number of <85 win wild card teams bring home credits!!! The dice giveth and the dice taketh away :-)

My only 108 win team won the championship no problem. I bet more 100 win teams win the championship than lose the championship.

I found 38 100 win teams in my past leagues. 18 lost in the semis. Of the 20 that advanced half took the crown. Looks like a 50/50 deal all the way around.

Welll...I dunno.

You played in 1-19 HR park with big boppers all season hence the 200+ HRs. Your team didn't have an amazing BA Avg or OBP .240/.312

You drew the best pitching staff of your league with a season 2.95 ERA, now under 2 for the Post Season. Samardzija was a buzzsaw for 2 games. You played in a pitcher's park for 3 of them getting 0 BP HRs and had average starters going with one only going .2 innings in a game.

Could you have won? Absolutely.

Was it locks due to your record? No way.
