For those that don't know the meaning of baroque I have included the definition below.

ba·roque /bəˈrōk/

adjective

adjective: baroque

1.
relating to or denoting a style of European architecture, music, and art of the 17th and 18th centuries that followed mannerism and is characterized by ornate detail. In architecture the period is exemplified by the palace of Versailles and by the work of Bernini in Italy. Major composers include Vivaldi, Bach, and Handel; Caravaggio and Rubens are important baroque artists.

highly ornate and extravagant in style.

"the candles were positively baroque"

So strether was either saying the person he quoted was making a suggestion that reminded him of the 17th or 18th century or that the idea had an extravagant style. If he was referencing the later it does not mean that it is an incorrect statement, simply an ornate style of language.

Wow. Acquaintance? Baroque Supposition? I better break out the good china for the fancy tea if I want to continue reading this post.

Methinks this thread is purely nothing but a boar's head full of conjecture unless some fine gentleman from the SOM bureau finds it in his gracious heart to respond to our envoys regarding a rating system. Pinkies up and...sip

I just draft for my ball park as well, Scumby; there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. I, and most other managers, have been doing just that for many years. Unfortunately, some managers like Verbal Warrior would like SOM's help to "inflate" their games, and that is truly too bad.

I wonder how many times "baroque supposition" has been used together in a sentence in history. On some internet search engines I only see 4 results.

Speaking of search engines, it's easy to access any manager's past teams.

Repetitious past usage of a phrase isn't a prerequisite for its proper usage. But it's nice to know you've assumed the position of "phrase police." I teach my students to be somewhat creative in their phrasing; apparently, you were taught differently.

As to access to manager records, please show how it is "easy" to access any manager's past teams. That would put a swift end to the debate on this thread.

No, Robert.

1. I was not the one who made myself the topic; Kevinehle did.
2. I did not make my writing the topic...Verbal Warrior, Steve F, and Wavy did
3. You exacerbated all that by your troll post above, which I have just reported as derogatory and off-topic.

Now, let's let the still-healthy thread continue, particularly since WavyGravy claims to have the answers so many seek. If everybody, including you, can stop focusing on me, maybe he can give them to us.

Strether, did you ever find out what information was provided by the TSN manager ratings? There was all kinds of information that could be gleaned from over at TSN, too much for me to list..... Why would you worry about too much information being made available? That seems kind of silly too me....No...?? Unless you are like the best player, who is going to look at all your teams, and so what if they do? No one is going to try to copy your teams. Not that you are not a good manager, but it is also not like you are a top five manager either.... Please do not take this the wrong way, I do think you are a very good manager, just not the best. I also think you are a good writer, when you are not making a tedious argument...

I never found that information because I asked you, Radagast, what it was. You were the one who said, as you said above, they gave out so much information. So, when you have the time, please share with us what that information is.

Also, my issue isn't with too much information being available per se, although that could be a problem. My problem is both with the inevitable result of players' past teams being released, as well as the inequity of it. Firstly, if every manager knows every managers' past teams, many managers will start focusing on outsmarting particular managers, other managers will start shaping their drafts knowing this, and the whole draft system will turn into one big guessing game instead of a mode for managers to best build their teams. That's what the draft system should be there for.

Also, information gained on others managers should be something earned. It should be information the manager got from his or her years of experience, as well as experience against other managers. If we hand over all the information to all managers, then actual scouting and actual experience against other managers would be irrelevant. That's not a good thing.

As to myself, I take no offense at your not considering me a top 5 manager; I certainly don't. I consider myself a solid (B+) manager who is very good, but definitely not an ace. I have no worries about people copying my teams, nor do I have worries about people trying to outsmart me. I just don't want to be in the middle of a matrix of managers trying to outguess each other every time I draft in a league. That's not why I joined or like SOM online.

Finally, if you ever find any of my writing or arguments tedious, please PM me. I am always searching for new capable editors... ;)

I.Strether (wish I knew your first name), I don't think I made you "the topic". I thought the two of us were just discussing a topic. Sure it's on a public forum, but it seemed like we were just a couple online strato fans sharing our views. Not sure how it all snowballed into something else.

When you posted this at the end of your last post, you definitely made me part of the topic:
KEVINEHLE wrote:I think you are the type of owner who would like to hide out mysteriously in the shadows, plan, scheme, and then pounce! Absolutely nothing wrong with that. It's just a matter of preference. 8-)

We were discussing the right or wrong of SOM giving out information on managers' past teams. You, not I, were the one who decided to talk about me, personally, with your comment above. So, I was right when I told Robert that I didn't make myself the topic.

But, while it would have been better if you hadn't gotten personal, I, in no way, equate your doing so with the antagonistic troll posts of Verbal Warrior, Robert LaTorre, Steve F, and Wavy...they were the ones who snowballed it into something else. In other words, you and I are cool.
