Typical

PostFri May 22, 2015 8:00 pm

This is how the 2014 league I joined filled up. I have a feeling this is pretty typical!

Day # (M/N). M=morning, N=night
1N. I'm the first team to enter autoleague. Ugh!
2M. Second team enters
2N. Third team enters
3M. Third team exits
3N. Third team (re-)enters
4M. Fourth team enters.
4N. Fifth and sixth teams enter
5noon. League full!

I exit and come back in often if I am one of the 1st teams in, especially when rethinking my park and lineup picks, sometimes if I recognize a couple of owners, I will change up as I know the type of team they usually draft.

I understand dropping out temporarily to make changes. I just think it's bizarre how slowly a league fills up at first and how it seemingly instantly fills once it reaches a certain point.

I think it is simple impatience. Join with just a couple teams. Nothing happens in the 4 times we glance at it so out we go and off looking for another league. Then someone else joins with a little more patience, then another, suddenly the league is 2/3 full and there is a feeding frenzy to get your team tweaked and tossed in while 4 others are doing same thing. League started, languished for a while (length of languish varies) and then fills in minutes.

I actually have talked to a few who told me they keep teams ready but never consider putting in a league until there are only a couple slots left because they do not have the patience to wait for a league to gain momentum. In younger less wise days I misinterpreted this as being like vultures waiting until a league was almost full of patsy and the diving in. Further review of their patterns and discussions since made me realize their motives were pure. They just wanted to join whatever league they could identify as having the best chance of filling and drafting that night.

At least you know when most leagues reach a certain number the waiting is almost over. ... Now if we could only get waivers pushed up about 24 to 36 hours :D .

I haven't done it this year, because my Strat Anonymous meetings have been going better, but in previous years, if I checked Leagues Forming and saw something close to full, I'd jump in. But if the league is at 2/12, I could resist.
