F33d M3 wrote:[It's this kind of lazy logic that keeps this place in perpetual limbo.

That wasn't "lazy logic." It was a perfectly logical and true statement showing SOM provides a particular service for a low price. If you actually want to show how it's "lazy logic"--anyone can just say it is--please show how.

>> Defensive much? You literally say "nuh unh" to everything anyone says on here.
It's lazy because all you did was divide 20 dollars by 67 days and came to the illogical conclusion that it's great value.
How much lazier can you get man?

What services does SOM provide exactly? The whole damn thing practically runs itself ...

No, it doesn't. SOM's programmers, engineers, and technicians enable it to run and manage and fix it throughout the season.
other than the once a year they have to come up with new cards, what the hell do they actually do? Answer a question or two? And do they honestly even do that? What exactly are they serving these 67 days? Access to email somebody? Wow Amazing :o

>> Really? Show me one grain of proof that they have programmers, engineers and technicians sitting around making constant adjustments to the game and making a full or even part time salary. I call bullshit.

Yes, they do come up with new cards, and, as I showed above, they do the work that enables its program to allow us to interact with it and run games and drafts every night. That is a service that is definitely worth 30-33 cents a day. I wouldn't call it "amazing" as you did, but I would certainly call it substantial.

>> Show me any kind of proof that they do day to day work on SOM and it's leagues. What exactly is this team of programmers, engineers and technicians doing for the game every night that is so important?
So you are saying SOM doesn't run itself ... it needs constant day to day monitoring by a bunch of programmers, engineers and technicians. Really?

The prices for this game are atrocious. I paid .99 cents for i***** on my iphone and have spent dozens and dozens of hours on it just this year alone without ever needing customer service. Oh and I'm sure if I did, there is an email I can use to reach someone.

I have no idea what "i*****" is and what services it provides. I imagine it doesn't provide the same services or demand the same work load from it's employers as SOM online does, so you need to provide more information if you want your analogy to work. I won't, however, sing the praises of SOM's customer service or relations; they are not its strong points.

>>So then what are its strong points? Its ginormous staff of programmers, engineers and technicians that are standing by nightly in case something goes wrong? It just seems like your are defending because you are a defensive person. Your arguments seem petty and not for the greater good.

This game has so much potential to set itself apart from the competition but at this point it has become an embarrassment of old farts who are holding it back from being the true game it could be.

This is like the fifth time you've mentioned "old farts" and/or old people. You're beginning to show quite an obsession with the geriatric. So, I have to ask, how old are you...and why is age such an issue for you? I'm 46 myself, and the ages of my competitors don't concern me. Also, if you see the game has so much "potential," then you clearly believe it provides substantial services and have contradicted your erroneous "lazy logic" comment above.

>>I am 35 and this time your logic is completely faulty. Making a statement that the game has "potential" does not in any way correlate that it provides "substantial services". Huh? That is a ridiculous statement. Did you even read what you wrote?

Of course, I already showed that.
>> Of course, of course. :?

Stop making excuses, this place is run horribly and it will continue to go down hill until you open your eyes and see that you are all suckers for staying here and paying this ridiculous sum for a broken game.

I made no excuse; I stated facts.

>>Facts? In the words of that guy from the princess bride movie ... "You Keep Using That Word, I Do Not Think It Means What You Think It Means"

I'm sorry you don't know the difference.
>> I'm sorry too big guy

And there's no bigger sucker than someone who rants and raves about a product he or she can't stand while continuing to use it and hang out on its forums.

>>Now you are putting words in my mouth and making erroneous statements. I will always have love for SOM.
I have many great memories from back in the day, but there came a time where I had to put my foot down and not give any more of my money until things changed.

You people are full of it if you believe this game is reasonably priced in this day and age. They HAVE to charge an arm and a leg because they NEVER get any new blood. It's just progressively getting worse every year with less and less giving a shit being obvious. How long can this model last?

You're getting quite angry, hostile and upset over a product you claim to disdain. Are you ok?

>>You make blanket statements that are obviously your skewed perspective and not reality.
I assure you I am not angry, just passionate about this game that I've sadly mostly given up on.
And yes, I'm OK thanks for your concern. (Somehow though, I get the feeling you don't really care about me  )

Again, as I said before, If SOM is so terrible and unhinges you so, why are you still here? As you said yourself, there are plenty other options out there. I suggest you go try a few.

>> I have! Thanks for the suggestion.
Maybe it will help with my anger and help me put the pieces of my unhinged soul back together.

This nonsense about the game not being ridiculously over priced is just silly.
Do you really think teenagers want to spend 20 bucks on a game they've never played, that has a steep learning curve, that has no bells or whistles, that can only be played on windows? This place is still stuck in the 90s and it's just sad.

No, it's not overpriced. It's 30-33 cents a day. If you can tell me a similar product providing such service at such cost please do. As I said before, you are clearly upset and disappointed with SOM, enough that you would continue to rant and rage at it and its users. All that effort would probably be better spent on a site you actually like.

>> It's truly because of people like you that this place now sucks. I've posted my passionate, personal feelings about the game and you passive aggressively attack me, belittle me and call me an angry, raging, unhinged lunatic.

All this for only .30 cents a day.

I did none of those things. If I actually did, you would have showed me where and how I did; you didn't. However, if anybody made you look like those things, it was only you.

On an unrelated (or related) note, they're coming out with a new Friday the 13th movie. It's subtitled "Jason takes a beating"

Good lord! Multi-quoting should be banned.

They do need to simplify explanations, but we don't want them to simplify the game itself. Also, Wavy, you said on another thread that SOM already provides managers' past teams to everybody else, yet you didn't show how:
wavygravy2k wrote:Speaking of search engines, it's easy to access any manager's past teams.

Considering managers would see this as an improvement, could you please show us how it is "easy to access any manager's past teams"...or were you being less than honest?

Also, what exactly is "multi-quoting" and why should it be banned?

Umm is this another "Nuh Unh"?

You didn't belittle me and call me angry, raging & unhinged?

No, it's: I didn't say what you did, and the fact you didn't back up your claims proves it. I'm sorry that's difficult for you.
You didn't belittle me and call me angry, raging & unhinged?

No, I didn't, and at this point, I was clearly quite generous... ;)

Again, if I did, you would have shown where I did; you didn't. So, I'm done with your particular behavior and mode of "thinking." I'll let others put up with you for awhile. So, welcome to my ignore list; I won't be reading or engaging anymore of your posts.

I'd like to see some beginner leagues that consist of 12-team leagues but with three of the teams--one in each division--run by HAL-bots. Each human manager would draft normally with an $80-million cap. Then, the HAL-bots would draft from the leftovers and with only a $60-million cap.

What does this accomplish? Most new managers would have a winning season. Years ago, I tried this game along with a friend. With a little beginner's luck in a 70s mystery league I had some success; my friend had a losing record. Even though it took quite a while before I won my first championship, I had enough success early to keep me interested. I've been playing ever since while my friend never played a second season.

I think the beginner league idea is a good one. Early success can be a powerful motivator for continued playing, which SOM should encourage. I would also like to see a lower price for the beginner leagues ($9.99; one credit for the championship winner?) I suspect people would be motivated to "learn the ropes" to play in the regular leagues as soon as possible, by which time they would have a better chance to win games against more skilled competitors.
