Santiago's Almost No-Hitter

HAL pulls Santiago (136 pitches) with 2 out in the 8th, a 5-0 lead, and a no-hitter potentially in the works! Aaarrrrgh!

What were your settings? There are many things that could have led HAL to do so. Firstly, 136 pitches could have led HAL to pull him due to an F setting, or just the pitches themselves plus a Normal relief setting. Also, with whom did he replace Santiago. He also could have thought the relief pitcher was a better match-up, regardless of fatigue.

HAL has no setting for potential no-hitters and isn't even close to sentimental. Considering his already-present quirks, that's a good thing.

I wouldn't expect HAL to factor a potential no-hitter into his pull decision. I was surprised that Santiago had thrown that many pitches without giving up a hit. Most of my relievers are better than Santiago (at F0) and I'm not frustrated with HAL. I'm merely disappointed that a potential no-hitter passed by - just giving a "fan" reaction.

PS. Rosenthal was the replacement and immediately gave up a double to H. Ramirez.

I've lost no hit bids too, but not that late into the game. it would be nice to have that setting as an override, don't pull until allowing a hit.

That's not a bad one. I just don't think SOM would create such a function for such a special purpose. I'd still take Don't Steal Third and/or Home any day.

Count me in on the "Don't steal third and/or home" setting.

As for relieving in a no-hitter, I feel the pain. I think some would depend on the difference in the score. 8-0, leave my guy in. 1-0, no-hitter or not, I want Wade Davis or Dellin Betances in there.

I agree on the steal settings - although I still could see an "attempt" resulting from a blown sacrifice.

Santiago had 5-0 lead. I would have left him in until at least two runners were on.
