Re: How to get the next generation to embrace your game!

PostWed May 27, 2015 3:03 pm

Do you really think teenagers want to spend 20 bucks on a game they've never played, that has a steep learning curve, that has no bells or whistles, that can only be played on windows?

Sigh...more validation of my nerd status. I spent $7 on my first Strat set: 1973 Tigers, A's, Reds, Red Sox, Phillies.

Knew nothing but that it was a game I could replay MLB, no bells and whistles, and "windows" were what you opened to let air in during the summer. Oh, and $7 back then? $28 today!

But seriously, one thought that went through my mind is that the criticism of SOM reminded me a great deal of a criticism of MLB itself. I am not sure I even remember what year I last watched a MLB game, either on television or in real life.

I would also like to see a lower price for the beginner leagues ($9.99; one credit for the championship winner?) I suspect people would be motivated to "learn the ropes" to play in the regular leagues as soon as possible, by which time they would have a better chance to win games against more skilled competitors.

Each human manager would draft normally with an $80-million cap. Then, the HAL-bots would draft from the leftovers and with only a $60-million cap.

What does this accomplish? Most new managers would have a winning season. Years ago, I tried this game along with a friend. With a little beginner's luck in a 70s mystery league I had some success; my friend had a losing record. Even though it took quite a while before I won my first championship, I had enough success early to keep me interested. I've been playing ever since while my friend never played a second season.

ycbill and coyote, LIKE! and LIKE! on both ideas

Umm is this another "Nuh Unh"?

No, it's: I didn't say what you did, and the fact you didn't back up your claims proves it. I'm sorry that's difficult for you.
You didn't belittle me and call me angry, raging & unhinged?

No, I didn't, and at this point, I was clearly quite generous... ;)

Again, if I did, you would have shown where I did; you didn't. So, I'm done with your particular behavior and mode of "thinking." I'll let others put up with you for awhile. So, welcome to my ignore list; I won't be reading or engaging anymore of your posts.

 I'm debating with a coo coo bird.

Honestly, I feel like you are some small town hillbilly trying to pretend he is intelligent.
The words are right there on the page. All you do is antagonize people and lie over and over.
You said you were in your 40's? Yipes.

Why do you guys not ban this guy from the forums, he is a detriment to the game.

Strat doesn't want to do anything about him, even though he has pissed off at least twenty people or so with his style of writing. One of the strange things is that he claims to be an English teacher and his weakness is his communication. (kind of helps answer the question of what is going on in our schools nowadays) He really struggles understanding any sort of slang or somewhat abstract analogies presented by some of the posters on this forum. He also is not aware or doesn't care how condescending he comes across as. I think his misreading of people is what leads to his arguing with people so often.

Personally, I went from putting him on foe status to now enjoying reading his posts to see who he is going to piss off next. I just accept that he has his limitations just like we all do and roll with it. I was very reluctant posting about him but F33d M3 seems like his latest punching bag and thought I would pass along some observations to help us all move forward. This is not a personal attack on him, just facts accumulated from previous forum topics that got out of hand involving him. Also for the newbies that might be wondering about this guy critiquing every post. Don't let his arrogance scare you away from this online game, just have some fun reading some of the dialog because these forums are boring without some guy picking fights with people.

Oh, my. The topic of this thread is "How to get the next generation to embrace your game," not how to gossip about other players. If you guys actually care about the Forum, I suggest you stick to the topic thread.

And Bedjam, if you have problems with my modes of"communication," please feel free to address any of my specific posts for writing problems...if you feel you can actually do so. Until then, I'd stick to your areas of expertise, whatever they may be... ;)

P.s. I reported your off-topic, personal attack. I suggest you refrain from making any more.

No,your writing is not the issue. It is your not always understanding where other people are coming from with their forum posts, leading to unnecessary conflict. This is all about the topic, showing newbies that it takes all kinds to make the world go around and don't let one guys passive aggressiveness scare them away.

You can report all you want but I am not the person pissing off such a large number of the community.

I just wanted to pass on the note that I have 1.2 million Youtube followers... not counting the other sports blogs and sites I run. Every year, I come back to the game and these forums hoping to be able to recommend the past time I used to love ... but alas, I see that it is worse than ever.

The fact that you enjoy seeing him piss people off and take pleasure in him abusing people and picking fights is a perfect example of how depressing this place has become. :(

It is just sad that an abusive, deceitful, antagonizing person like this is allowed to continue perpetuating his awful behavior for years on end. It is really quit disturbing.

Good luck to you all, I truly hope this place improves in the future.

What a shock, more vague ambiguity with no specifics. Here's a free lesson for you, BJ: if you want to actually make your point, you need specific examples. If you can't provide them, as you clearly can't provide them now, your arguments ring hollow and false. If I was passive-aggressive with F33 in any way, and I wasn't, you would have shown me where. So, I'm done with you and your erroneous arguments and un-supported hostile accusations.

So, welcome to my foes list. You won't be missed. And I'm done with this thread; I suggest everybody return to the thread topic.

This is just awful, despicable & unacceptable behavior.
Whoever runs these forums should be ashamed of themselves.
