The original subject of the post which discusses settings and why Hal seems like an idiot to us.

The first page spoke of not going an extra base even with a 95% chance in a BIG game. Hal is always going to send the guy. He may have been managing the '26 Yankees when Babe Ruth was caught stealing for the last out of Game 7

Ruth attempting to steal 2nd down one run with Meusel at the plate and Gehrig on deck might be a good test for HAL. Crazy move but looking at Strat Babe was around a B stealer then. Alexander was old and Babe assumed he wouldnt be paying much attention. His early years Hold was a +1 and catcher O'Farell was a +1. So he had an 80% shot in the strat world and who knows if they were even holding him on. HAL very well may have sent him too especially if your team stealing was very aggressive or you had Ruth as "steal more" but it is considered one of the biggest bonehead moves ever. But only because he got caught.

Side note: Meusel had a double and triple vs Alexander the previous game.

interesting stat on that game. It started at 1;30 pm on a Sunday and their were only 38,093 in attendance at Yankee Stadium! Game 7! You could have walked up and bought a ticket at game time,

Saturday's game attendance for Game 6 was over 48,000. So dont believe all the hype about every world series game overflowing with people and police circling the stadium to keep the gates from being overrun.

Games 1 and 2 the previous weekend drew 61,000 and 63,000. Seems vert strange (info per baseball-reference)

didnt mean to sidetrack but ive never seen a discussion about what was considered a poor decision in a real game being compared to what HAL would have possibly done.

1. HAL sucks with platoons and pinch hitting.
2. Do not use Very Aggressive runner settings.
3. HAL steals home and third too much.
4. Don't use 3s up the middle.
5. You need a big bat to stir the drink.
6. A $0.53 backup has no place in the everyday lineup.
7. Don't overspend on pitching, $32 mil is plenty.
8. Catcher's who are 4s with a +1 arm are probably good to avoid.
9. High injury guys are also good to avoid.
10. Sit high injury guys prior to beginning the playoffs.

sorry for the terrible confusion, but the 3 so-called conventional wisdom I agree with are #3, #5, and 10. So I disagree with #4--I disagree that one should never use 3s in the middle infield. This said, in all justice to J-Pav, it used to be true--- in the furst years, you could a 41 hr (Boone) or a .420 on-base machine (Alomar vs rhp) 1-rated second baseman for 8m or so--- but Som has corrected its price structure for middle defenders since.

Thanks for the clarification, Marc. You and i are in definite agreement on #4, and as I showed earlier in the thread, I've successfully "defied" number 4--as others have--more than a few times.

I'm glad we settled the Dozier vs Walker question. If they were priced the same virtually no one other than Strether would take Walker.

Right, dozier is overpriced by 0,7M---but he's still roughly 2m better than Walker. Also Walker has a very low e rating. I would never use a 3-rated middle infielder with a high e rating--- but i woild use crawford.
