I'm curious about this statement. I believe this was a topic somewhere in the past. Are you saying that those that use a ratings guide have an unfair advantage over those that don't?

Maddon probably forgot to update his lineup after dropping a player Or, maybe some players came back from injury and he forgot to update his lineup.

Like RB said, it could also be a thing where you put a batter in a certain spot in the lineup and something clicks and they start hitting better.

"Time savers" are those that save time on mundane activities of workable time lengths. Ratings guides do much more than that. Considering almost none of us, including myself, have even close to the time necessary to actually count out every card on the set. So, the ratings guides give their user information they most likely never would have gotten without them. And, as I said before, counting out the cards doesn't guarantee one would count them out correctly.

Your acknowledging people might not count them out correctly perfectly supports my point. The ratings guide provide a service guaranteeing they'll be counted out correctly for those who can't...even though very few of us have the time to count out a whole set.

Nope never. Sorry 'bout your luck again friend but I have NEVER EVER bought Joe's rating guide. I bought Lamana's once in 2007 and the last time I bought SOM's was 2009. What I wrote to Joe was, "I like the idea of a guide and would buy it if I had the money." Find where I said I would buy it for sure and I will turn my first place team over to you to manage in the league where we both are in!

Relevant to the early discussions in this thread was the Rangers lineup today. Hamilton was out and Fielder's history against earned him a rest day. So their lineup was something like.

2 Choo
3 Elvis Yes that power hitting King.
4 Moreland
5 Rosales
6 Gallo
7 Smolinski
8 Corporan
9 Alberto

I know they want to limit pressure on Gallo by keeping him in lower third of lineup. But that was a curious middle of the order. What I would appreciate are the thoughts of those who were using sabr arguments to say maybe I was over critical of Cubs lineup. Kind of OB guy, power guy, speed guy, power guy, whatever Rosales is, POWER guy, balanced guy, weak hitter, OB guy to finish. Is this lineup simply the unfortunate leftovers from injuries or does it make some sabr sense? Genuinely asking since there were several people making some sense out of the Starling/Cubs lineup for me.
