Ratings Guides (Contd) and Most Underrated Players

PostSat Jun 06, 2015 10:43 pm

Since numerous posters wouldn't stop posting at me about ratings guides on Valen's Castro thread, I decided to start this thread where they can continue if some posters feel (for some reason) they must. To make this thread more interesting than that, I decided to also start a Top Ten Post of underrated players of the past 25 years. Those underrated players can be unsung good-excellent players or those particularly solid part-timers who also escaped notice. I will have my own list soon.

A clarification if you will, underrated Strat players/cards? or underrated MLB players. Potentially two vastly different things.

Underrated MLB players, but if anyone wants to list underrated Strat cards, I would appreciate it and value the information.

Here we go. This is my list of the most underrated very good-excellent players of the last 25 years, those players who played and produced beautifully, but never got their deserved general acknowledgment:

1. Brian Giles, Of. He produced awesome SOM cards, but also had speed, power, and a .400 career OBP.
2. Jermaine Dye, Rf. In someways, the prototype RF with his cannon arm, powerful swing, and laconic presence.
3. Cliff Floyd, 1b-Of. The big, well-travelled, and fragile Floyd hit, hit for power and got on base: proto-Moneyball
4. Steve Finley, Cf. Sabean drooled yearly over Finley's defense, pop, and over-all game...despite roids whispers.
5. Kevin Brown, Sp. Supposed poor teammate was well-travelled but provided ace performances in many places.
6. Eric Chavez, 3b. Roids stats diminished his pop, but his GG defense continued throughout his long career.
7. Sean Casey, 1b. The sweet-swinging Mayor didn't have Votto's power, but he was an old-school line-drive 1b.
8. Ugueth Urbina, Rp. Even name hasn't saved him from obscurity, but had some excellent years closing all over MLB.
9. Roy Oswalt, SP. He and Pedro opened the door for little righties, but Oswalt's great work often got overlooked.
10. Brian Roberts, 2b. Old-school speedy, scrappy 2b with pop toiled in practical obscurity for bad O's teams.

Strether is using the bait of continued Ratings Guide talk (which he really doesn't want to talk about any longer) just to reel you in to talk about another one of his endless top 10 lists. Talk about bait and switch.

I read this post, Randy, because I said I would address further posts from the other thread's discussion. Thank you for being caustic and petty, instead of productive, which is why I have you on ignore.

There is no "bait and switch" here. I have no need for a reason to make a Top Ten list. This is a public forum, and I probably would have made one anyway. Many people, including you by the way, participated on those Top Ten threads. I made this thread as a favor to Valen to try to stop people from posting at me about ratings guides on his thread. As you saw, many people wouldn't stop. Some, like Coyote and Freeman, haven't stopped.

Nobody has to post anything about underrated players if they don't want to do so. I only hoped it would help further draw people away from Valen's thread and leave it to those who wanted to discuss his original topic. Now, please stop trolling and hijacking this thread; you were a moderator once. If you do post again, I won't read it, as you are back on ignore.

Peace.

Bait and switch is right, he does love to hear himself type.

This is at least the second time you have responded to one of my posts since you put me on "ignore". You have claimed to have put many others on ignore as well. It is very evident that you are unable to truly ignore anyone which I knew would be the case since you are impelled to respond to any perceived slight and to have the last word on everything.

I wish you truly would ignore me and everyone else you claim to have on ignore.

Now lets get back to how you think the ratings guide gives information you can't see on a player card. That is truly funny stuff.

I actually do not mind Stretcher's lists, they are better than his other posts.... But Stretcher my Bruv, you need to get yourself a ratings guide or you will continue to get pounded. For someone who knows so much about baseball (and I mean that) you are not particularly good at this game.

"Pounded," huh? Richie, your cute colloquialisms are as adorable as your playground bravado. I have 25 championships and many winning seasons over many years...even against managers not using ratings guides... ;)

If you want to see that as not being particularly good, knock yourself out.
