...and on those "problem cards"... Like Geekor has said- we don't need to determine ahead of time, it's only an issue of one guy is drafted by two teams, then the higher priced card wins the tie breaker....pretty simple. I'm loading now!

I don't think you're right about this, Paul. As per our rules, the highest salary is used only as a tie breaker if we end up with 2 cards of the same player in our league, not to determine whose property a player is.

Paul_Long71 wrote:My example is Octavio Dotel. He has 2 cards. Thus his highest salaried card is what we use, that belongs to STL. But....if DET and STl both put him on their Autodraft list, then he could go to DET since one of his cards has Det and STL and the DET manager could have him in a higher spot on the card. But as per the rules, he is automatically property of STL. So in this case he wouldn't end up on 2 teams, but would end up on the wrong team. This is just one example.

Dotel is a perfect example. He has 2 ID's. No one has CHW or COL, so for us, there's one ID for ATL '07 and one for STL '11/DET '12. The way I understand it, he does not necessarily belong to DET. If you own one of ATL, STL or DET, and you want to use Dotel, put him on your draft card. STL and DET will be competing for him the way all of the other mulit-team single ID guys will be competed over. (i.e. Pujols, Beltran, etc.) Whichever team between DET/STL puts Dotel higher on their draft card will get him. No problem there. The problem would come if Atlanta also puts him on their draft card because the draft engine will give ATL the '07 Dotel. So ATL will have to drop Dotel IF either DET/STL gets the other Dotel id. But ATL can keep Dotel if neither DET or STL drafts him.

Geekor, please either confirm my understanding of the rules or correct me. Also, what happens if no one drafts Dotel but one of the 3 teams decides after the draft that they want him. To me, it's first come, first serve, correct? But this is where we'll have to be very careful that two cards of the same player aren't used.

If so, then all the posts about who has these multi-card players from ninersphan are in vain.

The list is actually very useful (particularly for after the draft since we'll have to go through every team and make sure there's no duplicates) but I don't think he's necessarily correct in awarding players to who he's awarding them to. There's no reason to turn multi-team guys into the sole property of one team. It's good to know who the problem guys are, but basically we sort it all out after the draft. We only use the higher salary as a tie-breaker. Again, Geekor, please either correct or confirm my interpretation of your previous posts.

And,
Jeepdriver wrote:Clarify this for me. I'm thinking this is an accurate statement:

Say someone is "exclusive" to me. For example, he played with the Cardinals and one other team. That other team wasn't one of the drafted franchises. "If" I don't put that player on my autodraft card, he cannot be picked up by someone else while he's in Free Agents because he would still belong only to me.

Is that accurate?

Yes.

On a separate note, just for accuracy in compiling the list of problem players, there are actually 2 separate Chris Carters, so there is no problem there. The one is lefthanded (NYM '10) and the other is right handed (OAK/HOU)

Correct.

Like (not that I'm using him) S Choo. He only played for CLE and TEX, so only I can pick him up, whether he is on my draft card or not.

As far as FA after the draft, you are correct, first come first served if no one drafted them and they are eligible for your team.

Getting to work on the last two teams shortly, had church and cooked brunch this morning.

so just sitting down to the computer just now.

You are right in my pre-maturely awarding the players, but it helps knowing ahead of time who they would go to when building your team list You may just decide it's not worth the fight for a particular player if you have other options.

I did that with some of my guys who aren't problem players, and essentially decided i wouldn't fight for them at all and take the chance i wouldn't get them.
