I happen to be in this league-
Did not make any of the offers mentioned to my knowledge

Clearly Clark not worth Mauer here or almost anywhere- however last live league another manger in a lefty park would not trade Clark to me for Caminiti PLUS Hamilton, so obviously there are folks out there who think differently- not better- just differently.

I also happen to have an extry CF named Fred Lynn who could be had and is clearly a fit-
just havent gotten any offers for him, so in this league better to keep him for a DH 8-)

I am missing something. How does trading Mauer help your CF situation? If you made it clear you were seeking a CFer then only response you need to make concerning Clark is he is not a CFer and that is what you are needing. Possible he argued because you have spammed messages about wanting to trade Mauer. Do not know the context there so cannot comment what he was thinking. But bottom line is there is no need to get excited. He has expressed an interest in Mauer with the offer of Clark. Start there with simple explanation you are not interested in Clark because he fills no open holes on your team. Then if there are other fits make counter offers. If you do more than just throw barbs back and forth any trade offer no matter how bad can lead to further talks and maybe even a deal.

I always feel you cannot evaluate any trade in a vacuum. In this context Mauer leaves you catcherless and Clark does not help at all. Perhaps if you had another good option at catcher and a hole Clark could fill better than anything else available might give it some thought.

I really think you need to be shopping Jackson and Walker. Just keep in mind others are probably not looking at any offers you make in a vacuum either. The question you have to ask when you send out offers on these 2 is how much your offer improves their team. Very small upgrade probably means they will not give up much. If they have a big hole either would fill maybe you get more.

The idea of platooning LarryBoy with Edmonds in cf makes no sense. Both are left handed and neither kills lefties. Better to just drop one that do that.

I also happen to have an extry CF named Fred Lynn who could be had and is clearly a fit-
just havent gotten any offers for him

Why are we wasting time debating Mauer for Clark? Get Salty on the phone and talk. I like the idea of Lynn in CF instead of Edmonds if you can find a good platoon mate for him. Maybe even if you can't given the 15 game injury risk.

can you believe I offered Mauer PLUS Reggie for Yaz
Guy already has Aaron in RF and he may feel giving up Yaz leaves him with a hole in LF. I go back to the old context thing. Just because one side is getting or giving up money does not make a deal good or bad. What matters is how the trade does or does not upgrade the rosters of the teams involved. Or maybe he is a Boston fan and Yaz is his favorite Sox ever.

When trying to find trade partners I not only try to think of who I can afford to give up but also how what I am willing to part with can help another team. So you feel you can part with Mauer. I wouldn't but if you do then you gotta look at each team and ask how much does Mauer help that team. In the case of Stageleft the value of Mauer is the upgrade from Pudge and the only -5 catcher arm in the set. Maybe he only feels that is worth Clark.

In your case trading Mauer means a significant downgrade at catcher. You probably have received no offers back because nobody considers him sufficient upgrade to their team for them to part with the quality of player you are asking back in return. In short giving up Mauer hurts you more than he likely helps anyone else so probably the absolutely wrong player on your team to shop in THIS league. Context, it is all about context.

There are too many cards in the deck now. The problem is that most teams don't have bad enough holes that they need to trade. This goes to Valen's point about Mauer not being enough of an upgrade to most of the teams to give up someone good.

In my barnstormers 200 league I screwed up the draft. I didn't save my draft order and consequently drafted in the predetermined order. Basically, my 1st and 2nd draft pick were Allen and Thome. So I ended up with Allen, Thome, and Boggs on my tream. I started shopping Boggs because I thought that would be easiest to move but hen I looked there were only 2 teams where Boggs really represented much of an upgrade. I made a few attempts at trades but got shot down, so I'm playing the season with all 3 of them.

There wasn't a single preseason trade in that league. At 200m. I've never seen that.

Too many cards now.

A little side story. I once sent a message to the league looking to upgrade my SP. Nev made me an offer that included Tiant. I shot him down. My reasoning was that "Tiant doesn't really fit my park". Lol!

I guess my point is, sometime we do things that, in retrospect, seem awfully silly.

Trades are tricky in 200m+ I was just offered Bradley Sp for Speaker and Ontiveros.

Yet had this offer that I sent out turned down....

You offer:
Gordon, Tom (2004) (P - R2) ($5,390,000)
Delgado, Carlos (2000) (1B) ($9,490,000)
Lynn, Fred (1979) (CF) ($9,130,000)

In exchange for:
Quisenberry, Dan (1983) (P - R3) ($4,370,000)
Brown, Willard (NeL) (CF,LF,SS) ($8,550,000)

Some just don't understand higher caps yet... and many, as in the the offer I sent that was declined...many, are so paralyzed by the fear of not knowing anything but what they copy that they turn down deals that heavily favor them.

Think you might be confusing me with someone else:

Your last response to me was 'lets talk tomorrow' when I told you that Id be willing to move Lynn;
That was 2 days ago...

The other trade offers for OC (got him for Averill, Fielder and Randy J) (got Averill for Heilmann and Billy Wagner) I also replied with how valuable he was given the many lefty parks in the league-

I answered all of your offers, and am still waiting for one for LYNN.

Okay...so WE MADE A DEAL!!! and he didn't have to give up Mauer.

The deal was Lynn and Pete Browning for
Cash (who is now my DH) and C. Fielder (who came full circle, since he was part of the OC deal but was then dropped by his manager :o )

Although wouldn't call these deals all 'exactly' even- b/c don't know if there is such a thing;
HOPEFULLY all 3 I listed are considered win-win given team needs/wants- or at least within reason if not.

As Druid said- the goal 'should' be to make win-win deals where both teams improve rather than one person ripping the other off.

I like the deal. Lynn and Browning make an expensive CF platoon but at 200 mil I think you can afford one or sometimes even 2 of these if you have done a good job otherwise on team.

And you get a starting platoon at DH.

Definitely win-win in my view. There might be some who will look at cash amounts of players involved or where they go in live draft, etc. But my only criteria is does it make both teams better. In my view this trade does that. Congratulations guys. I award you both the Billy Beane award.
