Is there any chance Jose Fernandez winds up on a new team?

It's the Marlins so anything is possible, but I'd be surprised if he was shipped out now, maybe in the off season.

Add in the fact Boras is representing him, and it's definitely possible. Fernandez wisely turned down an extension last winter, and, after the Stanton contract, it's unlikely the Marlins would sign Fernandez after he becomes eligible for free agency. I do agree, however, that they would like for him to re-establish his health, dominance, and value before dealing him. So, it's unlikely he goes this season.

Fernandez is a rare true Ace and is under cheap cost contractual control for 3 more seasons of arbitration eligibility. He has returned from his injury rehab throwing as hard and nasty as ever.

Low Cost Aces are something you build around, not trade away. It's not like they don't have other young studs on the roster either -- i.e., Stanton, Yelich No way he gets moved. No way.

I forgot to add that this is the franchise that dismantled a World Series champion, traded away their young ace Josh Beckett, and gave away their best hitter and player, Miguel Cabrera. So, everything is possible and nobody is untouchable for the Marlins and Loria. Considering how much talent Fernandez could bring, the fact the Marlins won't be able to resign him, and their investment in Tyler Kolek, I definitely wouldn't rule out the Marlins trading Fernandez.

Totally agree with TN though, they should hold onto him as long as they can. With the other pitchers in this division, the Feeesh need all the great young arms they can get.

Also, I checked TN's post. He didn't say they should hold on to Fernandez as long as they can; he said they shouldn't trade him, period. They can't build around Fernandez if he leaves for free agency, so eventually trading him looks like a significant possibility. Considering Beckett fetched the Marlins Hanley Ramirez and Anibal Sanchez, that wouldn't necessarily be damaging.

Which btw is a win win given both teams' place in the standings, but is more impressive on the Astros' end. A large rotation upgrade for two A level guys who weren't top 100 prospects entering the season. The catcher Nottingham has had a big year with the bat and is interesting.

And a deal within the division Beane will truly make a deal with anyone. Can the long rumored Zobrist to the Mets deal be happening any day now??? BTW, still stings to see Kazmir in a uniform other than the Mets. The deal that sent him away for Victor Zambrano, was one of the worst in the franchise's history.

Yeah I really respect that sort of thing in Beane. Screw the CW, if trading within the division brings you the best deal, well so be it.
