Anyone else rooting for Pujols?

PostThu Jul 16, 2015 9:40 am

Albert has 546 career HRs, 216 behind HGH Bonds.

Bonds played until he was 42, and his power numbers really didn't drop off until he was 39.

Albert is 35 and has averaged 40 HRs/year over his career. His numbers have tailed off over the past few years but he's found his power stroke this year again. Factor in that as he ages he could DH for LAA, with 5+ years at a 40 HR pace, he could break the steroid fueled 762.

I am not an Angels fan, but I am definitely rooting for Albert to stay healthy and take away the record!

Interesting that you make the assumption that Pujols--who came up during the height of the PED era--never used steroids. I am not alleging that he did...but I am not certain that he did not, either(which I would have to be if I were going to root for him as the clean HR record-holder)

Agreed, It is an assumption. With all of the investigations over the past decade, he's hasn't been linked to PED use, and many of the tell tale physical attribute signs of abuse aren't there. But you are right, that is subjective. He is a class act so my glasses might be a little rose colored ;-)

If Albert gets a little closer to Bonds I will root for him! But until then I guess I would rather he not pass Hank Aaron.

Never cared much for the guilty until proven approach. Rooted for Pujols when he was a Cardinal. Would root for him now if Rangers completely fall out of contention.
