That's interesting. I've had some solid success with hitters' parks--and offense-oriented weighted parks--in 20xx with mediocre or worse pitching. I've actually found I've ran into trouble when I overspent for pitching and didn't strengthen my lineup enough.
I don't have much experience with 100 m teams, but one things I've noticed is a manager needs to overspend well. In other words, he needs to smartly buy players whom he wouldn't ordinarily buy. And I think you did that well with overpriced players like Cano, Werth, and even Abreu. So, again, I'm not surprised you're doing well, and maybe you should be the one giving advice to your friend next time.
