I just finished going through all 16 team rosters from 1942-1957 and looking at each individual player and compiled a set of players totaling 728. This compares to the size of the 70's game player pool of 720 players.
The criteria I used was that each player must have a minimum of 5 viable seasons and at least 3 of those must be between 1940-1959. What I considered viable generally meant at least 100 AB for hitters, about 20 games pitched for RP or 100 IP for SP.
The player pool had some superstars like Mays, Kaline, Aaron, Banks, Campanella, Joe Dimaggio, Ralph Kiner, Mickey Mantle, Johnny Mize, Stan Musial, Jackie Robinson, Frank Robinson, Duke Snider & Ted Williams. The group had other excellent players such as Yogi Berra, Ken Boyer, Clemente, Larry Doby, Eddie Mathews, Johnny Pesky, Phil Rizzuto & Enos Slaughter to name a few. There are also some fading stars in their final years like Jimmy Foxx, Bill Dickey, Hank Greenberg, Al Lopez, Mel Ott, and Paul & Lloyd Waner. These are just some of the hitters. I have not even talked about the pitchers.
There are some fun names in the player set as well such as: Coaker Triplett, Frenchy Bordagaray, Hoot Evers, Debs Garms, Solly Hemus, Pinky Higgins, Myril Hoag, Dario Lodigiani, Peanuts Lowrey, Pinky May, Skeeter Newsome, Dusty Rhodes (not the wrestler), Goody Rosen, Snuffy Stirnweiss, Birdie Tebbetts, Gee Walker, Taffy Wright, Skeeter Webb, Boom Boom Beck, Spud Chandler, Orval Grove, Vinegar Bend Mizell, Bobo Newsom, Stubby Overmire, Tot Pressnell, Schoolboy Rowe, Spec Shea and Dizzy Trout.
If this 40s/50s mystery game sounds good to you send a message to SOM asking for it. The more requests they get the more they will consider giving it to us.
