Jayhawk do we need to remind newcomers that their 4 draft picks need to be on their draft list or they become free agents? It is easy to get the idea to just leave them off since they are your protected players. Is that the correct rule?

good point, your 4 protected/drafted players have to be on your draft list and you should list them in slots 22-25 of the draft order. If you forget to list your drafted players, they are free game for all.
