I reread the rules but don't see this addressed...
When/how do we pick our Franchise? Or is that determined by your first pick in the board draft?

From the rules on page 1:
"There will be a draft to select real life teams from that era (with a random order determination for the draft order). ("The franchise draft").
Then, there will be a 5 round draft for special player selections ("the player draft"). The 5 round player draft will be serpentine. The first round will be in the opposite order of the franchise draft."
So there are 2 separate drafts:
1. A one round franchise draft (order selected randomly), in which each manager picks his "franchise" or real life team.2. A five round player draft, in which each manager can pick
EITHER a core player from his team (might be important to do this where a player is carded to more than one team)
OR a free agent who is not carded to one of the other franchises elected in the franchise draft (admittedly a small-ish pool for free agents at this point).
The five round player draft is serpentine, with the round 1 order being the inverse of the franchise draft order. I guess another way to describe this pre-autodraft process would be to say that it's a six round, serpentine draft, in which the first round must be used by each manager to select their franchise (MLB team).
Remember that the free agent pool expands
during the autodraft to include
all other players (i.e. except those picked in the 5 round player draft), for the later-ranked autodraft picks, and during waivers and the frenzy). For the autodraft, see the rules on page 1 of this thread. The main point is that you must use your first priority autodraft picks to select your
core players first, for your autoraft list. Since no-one can check this, it is on the honour system.
Same goes for the waiver draft - you must use your first picks to make sure that you have at least 15 core players - or at least attempt to do so (if you didn't get them in waivers, i.e. if someone beat you to the player in the waiver draft). If you still don't have your 15 core players after waivers, your first frenzy add's must be core players, to bring you up to 15 core players. After that, you can pick any number of free agents (essentially any player not picked in the 5 round player draft).
Does this make sense Rosie2167?
