Yount or Templeton for the 1970s

Yount looks like a 1.5 year guy and Templeton is an error machine. I would keep looking. But, if you made me pick Yount would be my choice.

Yount's big season is a 100 extra base potential MVP season. The rest are not so great. Templeton has two or three that provide consistent offense. If you cut Templeton someone will grab him while Yount could slide. If you can get by keeping both for a couple of series, you should be able to identify Yount quickly. If not, I would cut Yount because chances are you will probably get another shot at him.

Had Yount once in the 70s and he wore left handers out. He's a weaker 70s choice, but Templteton needs so many at bats to do anything. Have seen Yount surprise in other leagues where I didn't have him - so would take him over Templeton. The guy needs 700 AB to do anything and makes a ton of errors.

Thanks for weighing in guys. Maybe I should go with Freddie Patek and spend the extra money elsewhere. Any more opinions?

Yount has the single best card but his other 4 are subpar. Templeton has consistently good cards. I would choose Templeton.

Lots of people like Roger Metzger who generally gives you zero offense but great defense. Templeton's cards usually give you close to a .300 BA and a 2 range. Yes the errors are there but I would take Templeton over Metzger all day long with the good BA, good speed and 2 range. His spot in the lineup is not a black hole like most of Yount/Metzger cards are.

Garry Templeton every time. It is the seventies and Templeton was one of the best. He will hit 300 steal bases and score runs. He is a good #2 hitter IMO and I call myself YountFan.

I tried both once. Both were cut sooner rather than later. I couldn't stand the errors. I would rather spend less money on a SS, and spend the difference on offense elsewhere.

Jerry D. traded me Gary Templeton and Ralph Garr for Carlton Fisk. I in turn cut Templeton who Jerry picked back up. 12 games into the season Jerry has BOTH Templeton and Yount. I am kind of confused why he has kept both, Templeton is tearing it up offensively and Yount has his third best card. I was assuming Jerry would drop Yount. .... I ended up going with Freddie Patek and Frank Duffy. Patek started out killing LHP so I kept him, cut Duffy, and added Roger Metzger to play against RHP. So I am using a Metzger/ Patek platoon which is emblematic of my prolific and ultra creative GM style.
