Ok, help with HAL's reasoning

One way to beat it is to have nobody else on the team that can play that position. I had Blank (I forget who) at 1b and Carew at DH. I also had the cheap Sandy Alomer. I wanted Carew to move to 1b when Blank got injured, but HAL put Alomar there. So I got rid of Alomar and only then did HAL move Carew to 1b when Blank got injured. Of course you run the risk of the backup being injured at the same time and having a 5 put in there, so I'd probably only do this at 1b.

does this work? I had someone tell me once when I was trying to figure out how to beat the problem that HAL treats the DH with so much reverence that he wont even mess with the DH slot when there is no one else able to play the position. In fact, I had a team that only had Ted Williams and Rogan that could play RF, Rogan started in RF against lefties, while Williams was the DH, and Rogan was also the backup 2B to Lajoie, and when Lajoie got hurt HAL put Billy Hamilton (this was a $200 mill team) into RF rather than pulling Williams from the DH spot and putting him in right. I had no problem with that move because as a 1-CF Hamilton was a better RF than Williams, but it just shows how HAL treats the DH.

I can only tell you that it worked in this instance. In fact, I looked at that team and Carr was my 1bman and backup catcher, so with No other options HAL would indeed move Carr to catcher and Carew to 1b.

Interesting follow up to this discussion from last nights games, albeit in a 2014 format (I apologize for the cross post but thought it was relevant to the discussion).

Because of an injury, I had listed Thole as both the backup DH and the backup C against righties . What are the odds they both get hurt in the same night, right? Well of course they do, and given the options, HAL chooses to use Thole as the DH and put a backup infielder at C. That one I don't understand at all.
