CTS - Like most on the board I saw that pick coming and was thinking if there was a way to add another dimension to the draft that would help avoid that situation. Now sure you could've taken Carew with your 1st pick but Allen would've been gone and he's a good add.

First I think this draft has worked very well so far for a first time try. So what if each franchise had a one time exemption pick which allowed them to override the max 2 per franchise pre round rule BUT they went to the bottom of the next round or dropped 20 picks (something like that).

This would avoid having to take a guy like Guillen and keep a franchise guy like Carew in the mix, but penalize you enough that you wouldn't use it willy nilly.

I think the draft is working out good. I am not sure it needs fixing. You could reduce to three rounds and/or limit steals to one per round and fight it out in the auto draft.

i think it's been great so far, and I've lost 2 guys in each round. The max 2 player per round was not an "add on" rule though. It was stated before franchises were picked. I discussed all the diff possibilities of it with Geoff prior to selecting the A's.

anyway, it will be very interesting to see who is able to get who in the rounds 16-25 part of the autodraft card. I certainly hope everyone understands the importance of filling out the AD card correctly (1-5 HAS to be your FA draft guys, then 6-15 HAS to be guys from your franchise, then 16-25 can be anyone)

That's a thought, but it doesn't remove that basic problem of the quota system- 3rd parties get screwed. In your plan, they just get screwed less.

I like the idea of no exemption better- it's cleaner. Sharks kill sharks and no innocent blood is spilled.
Add that to a standard draft and everyone has a fairer shot at winning.

As it is, the 5 round draft is useless to me- I get one guy and four guys I could pick up on waivers. If I had any desire to have Blyleven or Marshall, I'd be furious right now. All I wanted was Carew and another good player, as it is now.... hello last place.

But I do get ideas on how to do this differently,
