Sac Bunt More / Bunt for Base Hit

PostFri Sep 18, 2015 10:43 am

I built a small ball team with 3 top of the lineup guys that are 'A' bunters with 1-17 speed.

Does the batter setting "Sac Bunt More" also translate into bunting for a base hit more often?

I see it in the play by play occasionally and you can bunt for a base hit in the CDROM and C&D game.

Not 100% sure but I know if I have a guy set to "don't sac bunt", I still see that same batter bunting for a base hit sometimes. So my guess is that the sac bunt settings have zero effect on bunting for a hit.

I'd be interested to see what Strat says about this.

This is what SOM says about it (underlining mine):

Setting Batter/Pitcher Prefences

To set individual player settings click on either "Batter Prefs" or "Pitcher Prefs" from under the "Your Team" menu.

For batters you will have the following options:

Sac Bunt- This setting increases the chances or prevents that the player will lay down a sacrifice or squeeze bunt in possible bunting situations. It does not affect the player's tendency to bunt for a hit.

I am not one who was in favor of a ban. Just a bit more respect and acceptance from all parties involved. Like a do over.

I remember someone saying that bunt singles (and outs from attempts of it) come from the singles (and outs) on the hitter's card. After the fact, SOM re-interprets the result based on the real-life numbers of bunt-for-single-attempts for each player.

So, as said above, the bunt-for-single would come from an entirely different logic than sacrifice bunts.

Marc. If I remember right the board game had a table, a simple one at that, that combines bunt rating and speed, your understanding sounds a lot different and better.

I'll look through my cards and dice box tonight to see if I can find it.

I'll be curious if this is the case. I thought it might be specific to the computer game because SOM wanted it to be a "black box" situation so you don't know for sure what the odds of success are.
