CF Experiment - Won the Championship!

PostSat Sep 19, 2015 3:43 am

I am in a 24 team franchise league (ATG post WW2/ no DH) as the A's. I wanted to use the best cards of Rickey Henderson (LF1), Reggie Jackson (RF2) and Jose Canseco (RF3), but none of them is carded for CF on their best card. No problem, defense, who needs defense!! ;)

1st series I setup lineup so Reggie will play CF, figuring RF3, CF3, LF1 would be best defense. But HAL moves Reggie to RF and puts Canseco in CF for a RF2, CF4, LF1 outfield. I listed the blank CF position in batting order where I wanted Reggie to hit but he was put 8th in lineup. After 1st series, I made it so Reggie bats 8th v lhsp, and Canseco bats 8th v rhsp

It is all working out so far, a 46-32 record, 2 games back of division lead. When there is an injury to someone else on team lineups adjust so Rickey, Canseco, Reggie, and Giambi are top 4.

One surprise so far comes when facing David Cone(1994 KC). The 3 times that he has started vs A's, HAL has benched Canseco (.200 career avg vs Cone) in favor of Harold Baines(1990 Oak / .373 career avg vs Cone). These are the only starts for Baines on the season. I assume the career batting averages are the reason, but I'm not 100% sure (there must be other pitchers that Baines has an higher avg than Canseco against!?)

Also vs. Mickey Lolich (1971 DET) only, HAL move Reggie to CF and Canseco to RF.

Fun stuff!!

How interesting!! Vs Cone, could it be because of his 5R? Also how are canseco stats defensively?

I played a whole 2014 season without a 1b, Delmon Young played there all year.

Hal will move any open slot to 8th, but you can get around it by only partially filling in the lineup---I wanted Young to hit 6th LH and 7th RH

The way I got around Young batting 8th was just to list the 5 or 6 positions in the order and leave the last 3 or 2 blank on both LH/RH--Hal filled in the way I wanted and kept my SS platoon straight and batted Segura/Romine 8th

Have faced a bunch of pitchers with high R balance, but only vs. Cone is Baines put in. Canseco in CF - 25/48 X chances, 3 errors, and 6 OF assists....shaky, but usable..

Won the Championship without a player carded for CF!!

http://onlinegames.strat-o-matic.com/team/1408862

Final CF X Stats (Mostly Canseco, a few Baines, & a few Reggie) - 45/96, 9 errors

*took Milleram's advice on lineup and it worked perfectly, thanks again!

In deciding Game 5 of Finals, Canseco converted 2 X chances into outs:

I've always been tempted to get Mays and Mantle on the same team and have HAL stick one of them in LF, but never pulled the trigger. Congrats, that's cool it worked out for you.

in the 60's game, mays is eligible at cf, rf, and 1b. he's a 1(-5)7 at both cf and rf and a 4=22 at 1b
