It should be progressive, IMHO. It is virtually impossible to make tweaks and improve your team with a 20% cap hit. I repeat, virtually impossible. At the Progressive level it gives the Manager a fighting chance to tweak and improve his squad. I can't see arguments for the other side. Let's see how good the Manager really is. Give him a sporting chance. Managers need a chance to show their wares and 20% doesn't do that.

I'll say this, it would certainly encourage more trading! :)

It's been 20% forever, and there is rarely a single trade in any league. :?

Right, but he's saying the penalty should be higher. I wonder how many trades would be stimulated if the drop fee was, say, 40%?

I was just saying the price should be steeper for 2XXX versus mystery card leagues. But, now that you mention 40%......maybe that would encourage more trades? Nah, probably not....

I rarely play in non mystery leagues anyway (I prefer chess to checkers) but the 20% penalty just kills the new players who have no idea what they are doing.... If your goal is to make everything after draft day boring 20% or higher is FOR YOU. I prefer to at least have some in season decisions to mull over. ..... I would like to see larger mandatory rosters (just slightly) and maybe even extra cap money that must be spent on additional players late in the year to simulate late season call ups.... If we are going for some amount of realism a 24 man roster for a season of 162 games just ain't cutting it..... Thanks for allowing me to voice my opinion! Good luck with all your teams! :D

Or just encourage NOT starting these auto generated leagues ... how about using your brain to create the settings :P

I tend towards realism as a desired result myself, but I would be howling like mad if SOM ever updated their injuries system to simulate real-life. My luck would be that my top SP would get that Tommy John surgery after Opening Day.

Perhaps a minor league/taxi squad to stash a few players. Might result in more leagues seeing high-price, high injury rating players get drafted.

Good point--No one is twisting arms to force people into the auto leagues. I think the problem is that a newbie is likely to not know about other kinds of leagues forming, so their first dip into the pool is the auto league.

Slightly off topic, but related,

I think trading is more stifled by the cap than the drop penalty---I would like to trade a more expensive player for a lesser cost player often, but can't even make an offer because it runs the other guy over the cap.

If you do make the offer and he wants your player--he can't counter because he gets hit with a penalty if he drops someone to get within the cap.

The trading page needs to be changed so both guys can do drop adds during a trade with no penalty. As it is now only the guy offering a trade can do a no penalty drop during a trade.

I think most of the guys on the boards don't realize there is a population of strat players that only play autoleagues and don't frequent the forums. Especially the newer and/or less skilled players, they will always drop, doesn't matter the cap hit. Why not keep teams competitive longer?
