Are you a ratings disk/spreadsheet manager? - POLL

Do you use the ratings disk? With the new bar charts on the individual player page, I am wondering how much this levels the playing field now that the non ratings disk managers will have the card count information available

I don't have any ratings disks. I use Diamond Dope when it's running, or I crunch the cards/numbers myself. I tend to like the NERP values as a good rating. I adjust the pitcher NERP ratings by multiplying their vsR and vsL ratings by a number to adjust for the percentage of lefties/righties they will face in an average season.

good question though. I just don't see the big deal about the bar graphs, if they don't include ball park numbers then they don't help a whole lot....I guess they shorten my number crunching time as all I have to do is figure out the ball park numbers and add them in. so that's not too bad.

There is way more to putting together a good team than just picking good cards. The bar graph might be helpful to some but I don't see it as that big a deal

I'll still use my Card Chances script. I also added a feature which allows you to compare against a pitcher. I'll try to upload it to Greasyfork if anyone is interested.

As far as leveling the playing field I'm sure all (or most) managers would still find a way to get the info they are looking for. Some methods just help you get the info quicker.

Well, I haven't spent much time looking at the graphs--I am into my seasons too deep to change rosters anyway--but it is just for hitting chances and there are even a number of other factors to consider on a card besides the hitting results.

I think it is a nice tool. Yes, it can help even up competition as a resource in an area I thought I have an advantage in due to obsession and time, but in any event, maybe this will free me to develop other hobbies.

Hey Wavy, Is your script updated to work with the 70s and 80s mystery sets? Currently the one I have only works with 60s and 90s sets. I love your script a million times better than the charts.

I got the ratings spreadsheet once a few years ago, but found I really only used it for a few teams very early on during the set, since it allowed for some quick sorting of different attributes. I ended up going the card counting route after those few startup teams, so haven't bothered with the download since.

The graphs are nice, but I'm sure I'll stick to counting

The bar charts only give you some information, alot more you can get from the cards or the ratings disk. I will continue to get ratings disk in the future.

I don't use them, but I should. I avoid them more due to laziness and cheapness than due to being a luddite or anti-charts. I think they provide a clear edge and it's whining to avoid them and then complain. So I don't whine about them.
