I just look over the cards and do pretty well that way. Those that know me know I don't even follow baseball anymore. I do follow my players though. GO RANGERS! Hockey that is.

After going through my 1st draft and waivers with the new bar graphs--I find them more distracting than helpful.

I'm so used to reading the cards the graphs actually slowed me down---an old dog I be.

I think they will be helpful to new players though, especially those solid HRs in the middle of the card preceded by the # can fool new guys.

I never buy the ratings disk but have put together databases of card sets before which I used to sort when looking for a specific type of player or doing a specific theme of some kind. Since the addition of the feature allowing sorting and filtering by multiple criteria I have not bothered with that.

I avoid them -they are a nuisance to me, but if it helps others great.

Btw, just noticed that the bar graphs don't factor hbp (in addition to not consider ballpark homeruns and singles)

The ratings spreadsheets that you can buy don't have HBP or ballpark singles either. It's a major flaw as far as I'm concerned.

Also, the percentages for pitchers on the new graphs don't account for the X-Chart chances, even though they are the same for all pitchers. What they show for OUT number are simply wrong. They need to all be reduced by 30 (27.8%). Either that or you assume perfect defense, which is impossible to get. Only OF, C and P have that chance, and the best possible defense at the other infield positions can still allow base runners. To mean anything they'd have to come up with a means to assume "average" defense, whatever that is. Or else do what I do which is to remove the X-Chart rolls from the equation altogether and express all of the numbers relative to the chances that the pitchers' cards actually control.

HPB is very easy to extrapolate from the ratings book. They give you on base, hits and walks. Add hit and walk totals subtract from on base what's left is HBP

I don't use the ratings guide, though I have in the past (2007 & 2008), it's just I didn't want to spend the money the last few years and I rarely miss the playoffs anyway. But if money were no object I would use the ratings guide. (Side note: I. Stretcher tried to convince me I used the charts, nope sorry not in over 8 years buddy.)

I just noticed the new graphs in my mystery leagues and I love the new addition! Well done SOM!

I use the ratings spreadsheets and color code the different categories in groups of 12 to 16 depending on break points and category....
ie. top 12 average, slug, ob, ops, Ks
numbers at the low end get red
helps to avoid a line up too heavy in Ks or DPs....

Not sure if the new "Google Visualization" bar charts are the culprit but the process of opening up cards seems slower.
