I'm confused by this...

Example 2 - Reggie Jackson is an Oakland A (OAK 2 cards, NYY 1 card, CAL 1 card). Oakland is not in the pairings, so he is a free agent.

I get Oakland not being in it, as well as the Angels. But since the Yanks are, shouldn't he become property of the Yanks, and not a FA?

Not sure if this example is applicable any longer since he repaired the franchises from original pairing, where the A's were not paired up with anyone. Now they seem to be.
