Not for certain but just to keep this thread current - I would guess the one free agent could be dropped, exchanged for another eligible free agent, or replaced with a player from your team pairings rosters. Wouldn't see why not - but let the commish weigh in on it!

Not specifically stated in the original rules, but the intent was that each team could select 1 free agent to add to their franchises. The free agent is optional, not a requirement. The free agent could be replaced with another eligible (based on the franchise assignment rules) free agent or franchise player at any time.
