Many of us have known Marc in this Strat gaming community for many years. He was formerly known as luckyman and also marcuswilby on the old TSN site. Marc has undoubtedly spent hundreds of hours sharing his knowledge of this game with other STRAT gamers on these boards, and the old Tsn boards.

I have no doubt whatsoever that the fact Marc was dithering and making changes to his team was for the best strategic reasons from his perspective, and were not intended to take "advantage" of this glitch (if it was any advantage to Marc).

In any case, back when the games used to run only after midnight EST (on the old TSN site), it used to be a kind of party game in some leagues to make as many roster changes as you could at 11:59, it seemed to me. Whether or not there was a drop penalty, you inherently have a risk on losing out on a player you might have wanted, because someone dropped them at the last minute, and you couldn't quite pick them up in time. It can happen to someone with any time deadline.

For what it's worth, I was only teasing Marc earlier in this thread. Thus the winking smiley at the end of my post. Marc doesn't need defending as he has without question done more than anyone else I can think of to share his immense Strat knowledge with the rest of the community, and especially with new players looking to learn. He is one of the good guys, not one of the bad guys!

Hi Geoff! I certainly wasn't groaning at you, although I may be when the dust settles in League 1!

I recognize that he's a great player who created a great newbie advice thread. I don't like taking advantage of a rare bug in the game's engine but i wish you all good luck at this point.

My perspective:

Regarding the "rare bug". This quirk of the game is as old as the game itself. It's been around for almost fifteen years. That some players are not aware of it does not make it rare. The conversations with regard to it's "fairness" were already old when I started playing in 2002. While it's not for me (and others), it's liked by Marc (and others).

It's no more "unfair" than super-relievers, all 0.50 starting pitching or all-injury teams. The argument can be made that in a "tour league" situation, even one extra win might be the difference. Although, if a manager wants to exploit a feature in order to win more than what would be his usual share of the first three of 162 games (1.8%), while risk losing players in the FA pool, that's on him. But again, this feature is available to any manager who wants to utilize it.

Not being aware of a feature does not mean those who are aware of that feature hold an unfair advantage.

And FWIW, it appears Marc did this with all six of his tour teams. I'm actually surprised this didn't come up sooner.

What a fun thread this would have been if Marc had won his divisions by 1-2 games rather than 11-12.
