I agree. Especially with the Mystery League card sets where which card you get stuck with is completely out of your control, and not always that obvious.

Why are we doing 5/10/20 if we can only pull players from our own team?

My thinking is that there should be some penalty to equalize fairness. I figure that teams with a larger stable of players have an advantage and that making a free agent penalty makes the league more fair to the have-nots. It was in the original rules, so it isn't fair to change it now. Plus, I think it is a good rule for greater fairness. Also, back in the day, I think that farm teams got paid when their players got called up.

That's part of the allure of the mystery league to me. If I wanted to definitely know my players performance I would just play a single season year game. JMHO

I don't disagree with that at all, it just seems harsh when trying to create a decent roster to also have your salary cap chopped in the process. Anyway, I'm good either way since we're all in the same boat.

Whose turn is it anyway? Who is holding the Cards?

The Mighty Mets are in a boat with limited player choices beyond the initial roster, so we look forward to major salary chopping by other teams with lots of backup options. :)

That was my point it was not in the original rules that we would be doing 5/10/20. As far as player pool don't confuse quantity with quality, getting lots of crap players (some of which don't even have cards), then losing some to the expansion teams and no chance to pick up any free agents does not make for lots of choice for the top four teams.

You're right, the drop penalty was not in the original rules. If the majority of owners want to switch to a different drop penalty that is ok with me. Is the proposal to eliminate the drop penalty?

btw, I see that the Mets want to keep the penalty, and the Mets joined after the 5/10/20 rule was established. So, I'm very reluctant to change the rule for the 60s. I'd want to see nearly a consensus of all the owners. I'm against it at this point because the league is already set up and I just want to get playing.

On the other hand, I'm totally in favor of putting the rule up for vote for the 70s, if we get that far. For the 60s, only if there is a strong majority of owners in favor of the change.

bigdinkent is up. Anybody in a league with him where you can send a message?

I am surprised that the drop penalty would be in question for a mystery league. Every one I have played in had a drop penalty. A few have a fixed penalty of 10 or 20 percent. I think the idea of no penalty is interesting, since you could sift through all your players for their best years AND keep your salary. Unfortunately for the Mets, possible roster replacements Ribant, Kranepool, Hickman, Swoboda and Stephenson are limited in quality and quantity.

one of the things that can be done in a no-drop penalty format is that you could get by with 3 expensive starters on your roster at any one time - rotating a 4th starter in and out every series. So, you could have Koufax, Drysdale, Sutton and Singer and play like this : Series 1 Koufax, Drysdale Sutton; cut Sutton and pick up Singer; series 2: Singer, Koufax, Drysdale, cut Drysdale pick up Sutton: Series 3 Sutton, Singer, Koufax; cut Koufax and pick up Drysdale ....
