Billy Wagner

PostWed Dec 30, 2015 12:31 am

Was listening to a discussion on MLB network on the HOF candidates. If I heard it right Billy Wagner was originally a natural RHer. He broke his arm playing football and switched to throwing left handed and learned to pitch that way. That blows my mind.

I was a switch hitter as a kid and took my shot at being a switch pitcher. I got to where I could consistently throw strikes consistently with a simple fastball. Never experimented with any other type pitch. And while I was not lobbing the ball I was not even coming close to the same velocity as from the right side. Wagner developed in to one of the hardest throwers in the game using his off hand! That just blows my mind.

If I'm not mistaken Pablo Sandoval is a natural left hander and learned to throw right handed because he wanted to be a shortstop. He can can wing the ball over to first base pretty hard from 3rd base.

I think he probably did that so he could shovel it in with both hands when he's invited to a buffet.

That was cold. But whether from being stressed out or getting mean in old age was forced to laugh.
