Help with pitching....?

PostSun Jan 03, 2016 10:52 pm

Hey guys. I am in a new ATG8 post WWII, 80 million dollar , DH league. I am not a big ATG8 player and I could use some advice on decent cheap starting pitchers. I am going with a five man rotation . Who are your favorite SP in the 1.5 -6.5 million dollar range. My ballpark is 1980 Royals and the rest of the league seems to have a lot of pitchers' and singles' parks with the exception of one or two bomber parks... Can you think of any SP who do not give up the ballpark singles or who do give up ballpark HRs to lefties but not much else?.. Thanks in advance for any help that is offered. Cheers!

You have lots of options in the 5-day starter pool now. Reverse RHP worth considering at the high end are Conley, Oswalt, Broglio, and Sturdivant. Cheaper guys are the classic bargains Hendrix, Atley Donald, and Johnny Klippstein. Lefties who I like are Donaldson, Sid Fernandez, and Pfiester 1909, and on the bottom end Al Brazle and Rube Walberg.

As for finding pitchers with no ballpark singles, go get the player pool data from diamond dope (www.diamonddope.com), download the data for the Zero Park Effects park, and look for numbers followed by an asterisk in the BP HR columns. Those are the guys.

rburgh, thanks for your input! I like Oswalt and those reverse RH guys... We are only using the post WWII set.

I haven't been to the Diamond Dope site in a while, but I did know about it. Thanks for reminding me, I will check it out...

Klippstein is intriguing for that price. Thanks.

Hall, Bordi, Klippenstien, Gabler, Donald, Boswell, Harshman- then add two badass relievers and hit away!!

Bad news, it's hard to get lefty pitchers in the 2.5-3 million range.

I never worry about ball park singles. As for pitchers around your range, Parnell, Barber, Ray Brown, Kaat, Knepper, Big Bill Foster, Buhl, Sadecki, and Hensley off the top of my head.

$5.47 Jim Kaat always seems to do well.
Also like Len Barker and Conley.

I haven't used that many in the middle, as I tend to go either more expensive or super cheap SP

Here is my preliminary list of top 10 values in the pitching set. I'm glad to see that my rating system seems to pick up many pitchers that were mentioned. It's preliminary though, because I didn't enter the gbA into my system---they're not available in the big dataset provided by diamondope--and It's not checked-proof for mistakes.

NAME....salary
Klippstein, Johnny 2.36
Donald, Atley 2.45
Beattie, Jim 2.56
Gabler, Frank 2.32
Masterson, Walt 2.41
Hands, Bill 2.37
Jones, Sam 3.35
Hardin, Jim 2.42
Galehouse, Denny 3.37
Munger, Red 3.17

Last list was spefically for under 3.5M among non *SP---and doesn't consider innings---I assume that they are set to leave as early as possible.
