My thoughts on the RULE CHANGE:

I see this as roster manipulation to prevent you from making cuts. The 20 is there for a reason -- to open up the free agent pool for other teams to improve. If you do this it will lesson the already slim pool by 3 players and you will benefit greatly from it (you get to keep 23 and draft 7 vs. 20 and 10, which is HUGE when you consider how slim rounds 7 to 10 are). I would love to do this too and keep my prospects over the guys in those later rounds, but it is "gaming" the system and is not allowed.

I wrote the rules this way for a reason. This is it. The FA draft is weak as it is, this will only weaken it further.

Quick reply - Turtle makes a valid point and I don't want anyone thinking any funny business is going on. The way that the current rule reads and the way it has been interpreted in the past is that a prospect who has been carded 2x must be promoted prior to the FA draft (ie Javier Baez this year for me). But a prospect who has been carded only one time can be promoted any time that there is room on the roster (ie after a trade that reduces one's roster to 29 or at the end of the FA draft to fill out a roster). This issue came up last year and some owners requested clarification and the above interpretation is what travelingjack (commish at the time) said. I can dig up that thread if need be. In any case, I indicated that whether the rule passed or not I would promote Javier Baez before the free agent draft so as to (I had hoped) avoid anyone thinking that I was manipulating the rules to suit myself.

I think I'll change my vote back to "no" because of the effect on the FA draft, if prospects can be promoted later.

Turtle and I exchanged posts on this issue in the other 24 team keeper league as well. I think the main issue is to make sure that the rules are clear and visible to everyone, so that there isn't any confusion.

Although, there seems to be a side point that Ed is raising, which is whether first-time carded prospects can be promoted later in the year. But I think Turtle's argument is logical with respect to first time carded prospects as well, so I will change my vote to no.

Of course no problem if the rule proposal doesn't pass, but if people are in favor of requiring any and all prospects to be promoted prior to the FA draft that would require a new rule. The rules only specify promoting prospects prior to the FA draft if they have been carded 2x and says other prospects can be promoted any time if there is roster space -- and this is the way we have done it in years past. Whatever everyone decides is fine with me.

This is one of the differences between the two TKL leagues...In the original league prospects never have to be promoted, where as here they do or be released, so it makes sense to have different rules for the specific situations.

tyler/jay ruff are taking over thechamp's team unless we have several more drop outs then we can do a dispersal draft like last year.
