Mets Hall of Famer Piazza needs a Mets card

PostThu Jan 07, 2016 11:57 pm

I'm very happy that Mike Piazza deservingly was elected into the Hall of Fame. I'm also happy he said he will wear a Mets hat on his plaque (joining Tom Seaver as the only Mets in the Hall).

Now it's time for us to get a Piazza Mets card in Strat-O-Matic ATG. Perhaps 1998? (or 2000?) The Mets don't have much hitting for Franchise leagues, and adding Piazza would help Strawberry, Wright, and friends.

I agree there should be a Mets card in the set since he will be wearing a mets cap. Seems something wrong for mets to have a catcher in the HOF who cannot play for Mets franchise because there is no card.

While I am thinking about it I think it should become a tradition for Strato to automatically add each new HOFer that gets elected. We should get his rookie card. We should get a representative card from the seasons where he played for the team of which he wears the cap when he enters. We should have his final full season. And If with all of that it seems there is yet one more season in his career that could be argued as his best ever then we should get that card too.

Ditto for Griffey.

I just posted this in an email to help at online strat. Maybe if we all mounted a massive mail-in write-in campaign he will get added as a write-in candidate.

Piazza will be entering the HOF wearing a Mets cap. Yet we have no card for Piazza where he was playing for the Mets to represent the team he has chosen to be identified with.

Pick a year 99 thru 2002 you think most representative of his time with the Mets or that was his best season. Or roll the dice and pick on at readom.

Add it as a HOF celebraton bonus treat for the customers to the set currently being added.

Valen,
Perfect - except I would have said 1998-2005 (his full tenure with the Metropolitans). 1998 and 2000 were his best seasons with the Mets. Although 1998 was split between three teams, he played 2/3 of that season in New York.

I looked at offensive numbers. But I narrowed down the years based on number of games played with heavy weight put on games played at catcher. I remember there was one year he played a lot of first base which I eliminated. And another where his total ABs were down a bit compared to the rest. And I eliminated seasons which I felt would have people saying "thanks for the Mets card but why not his best Mets card. If a season did not look to me like it belonged in that best year as a Met discussion I eliminated. Subjective yes, but technically I was working and did not have a lot of time to really think it through.
