RIP Mr. Bowie

1st Lemmy, now Bowie - saw David Bowie on the Spiders from Mars tour at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in 1972. Seems like a lifetime ago.

i saw him every tour he did in the states and once in London. saw his last tour, then he went to tour Europe and had a heart attack on stage in Berlin. never toured again. read where in the last 10 years he'd had 6 heart attacks but ironically died from cancer. he released his new album on friday his 69th birthday. i heard a sneak preveiw a few months ago and remarked to a friend how dark and morbid some of the songs were. little did i know it was his farewell to all.

Was also at that concert Sheik, my 17 yr. old soul was immortally marked by that gig. I fronted or played in several glam rock bands back from around '74 on, and he and Jagger were the models for my stage look and style. I was particularly amazed and aghast at his simulated fellatio of Mick Ronsons guitar! Also the semi-gayness of it all was something foreign to me until that and Queens gig at the Santa Monica Auditorium either that same year or the next one, (can't remember when, but it was the Queen 2 tour) and a Sparks concert a year or so later. As a totally straight, 3-sport athlete, it really changed how I acted fronting bands from that point on.

He will be missed by many people. I prefer his 70's glam era but was glad about his 80's comeback as well.

He wrote All The Young Dudes for Mott The Hoople my favorite 70's band.

Bowie saw Stevie Ray Vaughn play at the Montreaux Jazz Festival. he recruited Stevie to play guitar on his next album "Let's Dance", his most successful commercially. he wanted Stevie to play guitar on the ensuing tour but would only pay him union scale wage. Stevie told Bowie to go F himself and never looked back. or as they say "don't mess with Texas"
