It is a great accomplishment even if luck plays a part in every baseball game, real or imagined..

Having the Yankees in a franchise theme does seem like a big advantage, despite anecdotal evidence to the contrary. But that doesn't mean you didn't do a fabulous job putting together a great record breaking team. Cheers!

Steven: Thanks for posting. I most respectfully disagree. Your team is every bit as good, if not better, than mine. The best measure of success in this game is wins. Run differential is a stat that people like to use as a win predictor, but is no substitute for actual wins. A 20-1 victory counts the same as a 2-1 win. A team doesn't get extra wins for running up the score. Your team had just one fewer win than mine, but played at a higher cap, where it is harder to get 100+ wins. Your team's run differential was a not too shabby +269. But the difference that weighs heavily in favor of your team is that the other teams in your division combined to play .500 baseball, while the teams in my division had a combined record of just 196-290, an abysmal .403 winning percentage. As a matter of fact, my team went 23-1 against the worst team in the division, which lost more game, 115, than any team in any league in which I've played. If that team had been good enough to play .500 baseball throughout the league and against my team, my team would not have won 100 games. My team was 51-21 in the division, a .708 winning percentage, while going 57-33 outside the division, a .633 winning percentage.

Over the years that I've been playing online SOM, I've accumulated a nice list of other manager's great teams, based mostly on wins or run differential, either from leagues I've played in or from seeing those teams posted in the forum. I figured that maybe those teams would help give me ideas for building my own teams. One thing that struck me about such teams is that it seemed that at least 75% of such teams failed to get a ring. They dominated all season, yet get beat in the playoffs. I never believed much in the alleged 100 win jinx, but there are a lot of managers here who do and I can understand the reason. For an extreme example, see the 24 team franchise league below, $125 mil DH ATG8 (except dead ball era players), where 4 teams won 100 or more games and all 4 were eliminated in the first round, despite playing teams with inferior records, and despite having home field advantage in 3 of the 4 series. My 106 win Yankee team with a run differential of +326 was among those eliminated.

I'm hoping that my 108 win Yankee team with the +433 run differential can avoid the alleged jinx and gets a ring. So far, they've swept their way into the Finals. Stay tuned.
