This should be here (really should merge this thread with Garcia's latest thread)

In defense of "secret formulas" and fearful managers...

When I go to McDonald's, I avoid the grilled chicken wrap. Just because it was offered to increase the customer base doesn't mean I have to embrace it. I'll just stick to what I enjoy.

I have zero, and I mean complete zero, doubt that I could navigate the ATG and Mystery formats with the same winning percentages I have with 20XX. I would just rather spend my time and money on the 20XX game. Trust me, it's not out of "worry".

With regard to the new daily game, I already played it as a beta tester and it wasn't for me. I'm not sure how picking a team from the entire field of available players with daily changing player prices is the authentic "GM/manager experience", but if you like that idea, then by all means, enjoy! No need to disparage others who don't agree with your assessment though. People play these games for all kinds of reasons. Just because they're not your reasons doesn't justify trying to minimize their records.

Rich, just 'cause some of us don't find the new game appealing, that's no reason to keep lobbing veiled insults. Some people like chocolate ice cream, some like vanilla, nothing wrong with either one, simply a difference in taste.

From Garcia's Blog: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=639616

This looks awesome, the marriage of Strat and Fantasy Baseball. I look forward to Strat-O-Matic Baseball Daily.

I've been playing strat since 1966. I was 8 and my Aunt Iris was (and remains) good friends with Hal. Shed get me know sets annually "right off the press."

There was a huge gap in my interest. I doubt I played the card game after hitting 13. I'd likely have sought it out had I had a son but alas we have only daughters (and they do rock, just have no interest in baseball).

I was very excited when my dear friend Rob (foggy) told me about strato online. I've been playing since. The modernization of the game made me one of the old guys who've returned to the game, apparently making it more profitable than ever.

I'm also now a rabid fantasy sports guy. I think the prospects of a real time strato might very well be another great opportunity for me to take time away from my job and do something fun for meaningful amounts of time during the day.

I'm all for it!

I'm similar to uncleny, without the part about having any connection to Hal or strat except as a customer. I was also part of the testing for the new game. I really enjoyed it! It's a completely new idea in STRAT, and kicks butt as a fantasy game! I could be wrong but I don't think that the salaries will change during the course of a strat game "season" - I thought that the salaries would remain constant. Perhaps they'll change the salaries during the real life baseball season but not during the course of a game season. Anyway, I love the daily game!!!

thanks for the update
It looks like predicting who will have a good year will be a big player in this game....
For example someone like Trea Turner could go from a passable player vs Lefties to a viable player
will the range and e's change too
strat is famous for ratings improvement in second and third year of cards....

Here is an idea, if you don't like the new game, don't play. I think it is going to be really cool and I applaud SOM for creating another great game. This is the GM/ manager experience.

Comparing SOM to McDonalds is about as bad an analogy as I have ever heard. SOM is a small family business that is lucky to still be around. McDonalds is complete crap!

Why don't some of you geniuses that are so dissatisfied with the game create your own game, if it is so easy to perfect.

So many negative nancys on these forums I think I need a break from some of these geniuses. People will always complain until something is perfect. Sorry 'bout your luck geniuses.

Why would they explain exactly how the cards are created, that is proprietary information? It is a game, hell even real baseball is a game.

You have played 1500 teams and now you are complaining the game isn't (your idea of) perfect? Even real MLB is far from perfect - from a whites only league to the DH or letting pitchers with high school ability hit (depending on whether you like the DH or not) to having no salary cap to make it fairer for small market clubs. .... Get over yourself- please!

The real game of baseball is steeped with uncertainty. I have a feeling the negative nancys just don't like the feeling of uncertainty that real life and real baseball present. This new format is nothing short of spectacular as is the Mystery Game. If you find a better game, by all means LEAVE and go there!
