Playing in a 2008 league that starts play next week - toying with the idea of using Jhonny Peralta as my everyday SS.
Love that bat, but not sure that I ever seen a team win with a SS-4 as the everyday shortstop; I know that I've never tried it. Any stories to share out there?
I have won with a 3 at Shortstop. One of my most creative platoons was with the 2007 set I think. I used Michael Young at SS versus RHP with a left handed masher at DH. And against LHP I put Jon McDonald at SS and Young at DH. It worked out quite well..
You can win with a 4 at SS (though it obviously isn't ideal), but you should at the very least have a good late innings defensive replacement. You probably also want to be good defensively elsewhere... Everything is relative, how good is your division, how good is the rest of your team, etc... Good luck!

I recall with fondness the 2005 Michael Young I used at SS sometimes. He was a '3' back then as well. But could he ever hit! Here's my very first SOM season ever... Young came up huge for me (at Petco no less). I didn't play Young in the field when I had Petco Park though. Ameriquest sure.
