Call up a card for a player and you'll see what I mean, or read Garcia's latest blog post.

Just saw this myself for the first time last night Niners! Guess that reveals my hands on managerial style in all its aspects! If you or Smitty are 'hard core," that definitely puts me in the 'soft core' camp-- or at least "softish". :)

Jan. 4 seems a shade too early for me, but since I cannot really monitor the regular season as tightly as I would like, getting a chance to think things over with SOMO has helped me. I buy the stats from STRAT most years, but agree with rburgh that it does not really make a huge difference in the draft. Might help find an outlier or too in Unleashed, but has not felt like a big item in our annual draft and I usually have an early draft pick!

OK guys, here is where I am coming down on both the Unleashed vs. Controlled and also on stat-sharing:

The only excluded players will be non-catcher hitters with a) less than 80 PAs and b) salary over $7.5M. At this time, the only hitter I see who might fit that category is Jarrett Parker of the Giants. So this means:

ALL pitchers who get an online card are in.

ALL catchers who get an online card are in.

ALL players with 80 PA or more are in.

Why 80? I think this is a good cutoff for callups like Parker who hit just a ridiculous amount of HRs in a very small sample and have the potential to really skew the game. It will not exclude some callups who play the entire month of September and are exciting to have in our game and also make the competition better by adding depth to the card set.

On stats: I am willing to try a draft without sending stats with it. I will be looking to see if there are big disparities in the draft which are caused by some having stats and some not. This is 100% subjective and will be based on my assessment. I will also be looking to see if it causes more delays in our draft than normal due to forcing owners to look up stuff they don't have on hand. We'll then make a call next year on whether to include them or not.

Both these decisions are final but will be reviewed post-draft. I thank you all for the feedback and am looking forward to a great offseason/Hot Stove.

On that note, frankly I am salivating about a team built around what I think will be the best SP card in the deck, the best hitting card since Barry Bonds, and a strong supporting cast including Papi, Kipnis, DeGrom, MadBum and others.

And while I like my chances, there are some teams that will emerge next year to challenge:

Craig's team looks very good and will benefit from Bogaerts' coming of age and the Donaldson, Bautista, Rizzo and Greinke cards, among others.

Smitty looks solid again with that killer pen and another good year from Trout, an emerging Kris Bryant, and young ace Gerritt Cole.

Hawk may do some damage next year with rookie studs Carlos Correa and Francisco Lindor (do I see trade bait there for someone?), Arenado's stud season, a resurgent Shin-soo Choo, and a rotation led by Keuchel but that may need some depth.

No offense to anyone else, but those are the teams I think will be in the Div of Death come season 2 2016. Let's see if some of you are willing to take up the gauntlet & prove me wrong! 8-)

You can expect fuly updated rosters from me sometime in early November.

Cheers,
Dave/QK

The FA draft is coming right up so check your needs and consider the following for prospects and those on your roster who are going to blow up this summer:

2.8/16.8/7.9 vs. LHP
1.9/12.9/6.6 vs. RHP
BPHR's? 1 vs. LHP.
BP singles? Zip

That's Pedro Strop.

If you believe Billy Hamilton will get his OBP over .300 this summer get him from me now.

Need an S7* to fill out your staff? Here's Lackey:

16.8/24.8/24.5 vs. LHP - 3 BPHR's
15.2/16.2/21.4 vs. RHP - 1 BPHR
DP's ? - 12

Lots of LHB who hit lefties better than righties. A good card set for David. Also, apparently because of this, there are lots more lefty crushers than normal.

Yeah I am pretty happy right now that my rotation is mostly balanced/reverse RHPs. DeGrom is a regular RH, maybe 2R, MadBum is a LH who should be 1L or 2L, Arrieta a 1L, Verlander 2/3L, and Morrow 4/5L. Shouldn't be too vulnerable to the reverse LHBs this year which is important given my park.

Also loving the cards for this lineup:
Kipnis/Espinoza
Harper
Seager
Ortiz/Ruf
Davis
Brantley
Vogt/?
Dyson

Just 3 platoons which is not bad. Some power, some speed, and a ton of OB vs both sides.

Re: HCKL Chat Thread - draft news!

PostSat Jan 23, 2016 8:21 pm

Guys, sent this via email as well, but here is the latest:

I have a real crunch this year due to a product launch at work that comes out Feb 16. The only way I can manage the draft this year is to do it soon & start it on the weekend. I will ask others to help move us along during the daytime as needed.

Here is my timeline for drops & draft:

All drops due: Thursday Jan 28, midnight EST

Draft starts: Friday morning Jan 29, no clock 1st round, 2 hr clock thereafter. I may not have the availables list done when we start round 1 but will have it out Friday at some point as long as the drops are all in.

I would prefer:
that you all send me your cellphone numbers so that I can text you when you are up.

Prospect draft will be in March. You must promote or drop any prospects with a "2016" next to their name, only 2017's can stay on prospect tab, and they can be promoted in lieu of a draft pick at any point in the draft.

Sorry for the late notice but hope this plan works for everyone. Normally I try to check schedules but didn't have that luxury this year. Let me know if any questions.

Draft thread is up, Hawk can start anytime. Rosters & availables coming tonight or tomorrow morning, sorry.

Please remember to keep chatter on this thread, not the Draft or Transactions thread.

Stadium draft will start when Round 2 is finished.

Thanks & happy drafting!
