Even at $80m cap ATG realism gets lessened since the cards are not standardized across eras.

In single season card sets the standard caps keep the teams closer for sure.

Absolutely true. Remember I started by saying I was not advocating anything. Just explaining what I thought the reasoning was for those who object to this sort of thing. Never hurts to try and understand both sides of an issue.

Regarding my personal opinion/belief stated earlier only reason I can see for unlimited cap is to make this sort of thing possible. And thus should be expected. If not desired then set a cap where this is no longer a useful strategy.

I tend to agree. at $999 anything goes. If you want some limits , why not $250 or some other cap?

Again, I don't play these leagues, but Ill toss in my two cents also.

999 cap is basically no holds barred. Field your best team as much as possible by any means needed. If, there were rule restrictions, then the cap wouldn't be unlimited. IMO

There was a great deal of input from some well respected members of the community in this misbegotten thread that I want to briefly speak to. There seems to have emerged a consensus -at least among folks who are not regulars in the Friday night capless, live draft scene --that we who play and create the capless, live leagues do so because we want to allow all the game the game shenanigans that can go on there. Just to set the record straight, and I suspect this holds true for a majority of the other regulars, my reason for preferring capless drafts was simply not to have salary be an issue during the draft. Literally. Period. Very few of us regulars, indulge in the gaming the game stuff, so prior to the issue being raised by our not-so-friendly felon, it wasn't even on my radar.

But now that it is on the collective radar, I would encourage our little live draft community to consider using a cap of $250M with 20% drops going forward. That amount allows us to not have to worry about pricing during the live draft itself but also should prevent much of the game the gaming crap that can go on when a sociopathic outlier on a mission jumps into the fray.

I made one transaction to get a backup at 3b after Schmidt went down for 15 games. The east coast snowmen have made a couple, all the rest have been from our boy Richard B. MIlter. So far it hasn't really worked too well for him, he is in last place in my division. My suspicion is that most of the league members are either indifferent or possibly irritated by Milter's nightly rotation of add-drops but it is certainly unrealistic. I find it mildly annoying which I suspect is what drives the behavior in the first place. Be that as it may, a $250 M live draft cap with a high cost drop penalty would put a stop to this sort of thing, yet still leave room to deal with injuries and dumping an underperforming Mays for one of his other cards.

I know this; you would not have said any of that stuff to my face, nor will you ever try a league outside your comfort zone. Join just one mystery league I am in, or any league with a salary cap... I didn't think so...

Anyone can play the same game with the same format over and over again. Why don't you ever play the Mystery Game or use a salary cap? Wouldn't a salary cap avoid the underhanded cheating you are so worried about? ... You wouldn't stand a chance against me in any format I am familiar with. Coward that I am, I quickly created a 100M ATG8 league, initially entitled the Brown Memorial League, so that interested parties could continue to watch the ongoing dance of social suicide in which Milter persists in engaging. But no one joined the first day so I got rid of the deliberately provocative league name. Our boy then joined up and there now seems momentum suggesting that it should fill soon. So feel free to join and see if Mr. Milter backs up his boast that I "wouldn't stand a chance against him in any format I am familiar with" (sic).
