New League "Franchise League with a Twist"

PostFri Feb 05, 2016 6:13 pm

Been kicking this idea around for awhile thought I would post on the board here to see if there is any interest.

1) Choose an expansion team(ATG 8 post WW2 EXP Franchise only) 125mil CAP. Use the actual team name so that as players join they know what franchises are available.
2) Populate your roster with players that played for that franchise. I.e. Omar Vizquel played for Cleveland, Seattle, SFG, White Sox, Texas and Toronto making him eligible to be drafted by ANY of these franchises. Baseball Reference will be used to verify any disputes.
3) Your initial draft must contain only players from your Franchise. After the draft if you have any players that do not belong on your roster you will be expected to drop them and replace with available legal FA players. Exception: The replacement player is the player you want to designate your FA keeper. See rule #5
4) After free agency starts here is where the twist comes in. You may select 1 FA Pitcher and 1 FA Hitter from all the available FA. This player does not have to be from your franchise they can be from any team. You may drop and add players until the season starts. I.e. you can select Vizquel, decide before the season starts he doesn’t fit with what you want to do, so you drop him and select someone else. After the season starts the Pitcher and Hitter you finally decide upon MUST REMAIN on your team for the entire season they cannot be dropped and replaced so choose wisely.
5) This will be a league based on the honor system. I feel this will be a fun league so let’s have at it. If there are any kinks in the league we will try and iron them out during the FA waiting period.

Can I use any card or just cards for my franchise? For example, since you already picked Seattle do you have to find a Seattle Vizquel card or do you get to use any Vizquel card since he played with the M's?

Once a player is selected you may use any card that player has.

On second thought, I just had the Yankees in the '68-'95 franchise theme league. I'm throwing the Yankees back into the pool. I hope someone enjoys managing them as much as I have. - Bernie

Are NeL players eligible to be picked up as free agents? What about players who don't get drafted in the autodraft, are they free agents? For example, I have the Yankees. If I don't draft Mariano Rivera, who played for the Yankees his entire career, is he a free agent?

No NEL players can be drafted I could contact strat I believe and have them removed I think, however I'm counting on players being honest. If you don't draft Rivera on to your original team or during the FA signing period he becomes a FA for the entire league first come first served.

Refining this thing as we go, You will also need to select a stadium from your expansion era.
