evans - never really seemed like an option for a small ball team to me before. am i crazy?
boggs - taken
pie - f/a
groh - thought about him...
smith - i totally forgot about this guy. he has never really performed for me in the past so i stopped using him.
matlock - never used him in all these years. is he an good on a small ball team?

keep 'em coming...

You may not be crazy.....not willing to commit on that one yet. The Evans suggestion was really to give a low DP (high walks and some HR though) and injury proof option...

How about...
5.74 Jackie Robinson (20 DP intead of 33, injury risk, but .488 OBP on both sides of his card plus some speed)
5.4 Ray Dandridge (only 2 GBA each side, injury risk, great OBP .543 vs L and .491 vs R in your park, and 1e18)
move your DH Sewell to the 2.12 version (Horrible Def 4e31 but nice OBP for the price and 2 GBA for extra cheap)
3.68 Eddie Yost (600+ PA, over .500 OBP each way, 14 GBA which is half as much as Kell)
5.85 Johnny Pesky (bullet proof, 20 GBA, .488+ each side, bunts, steals, can back up at short)

i do want to see how he will perform though, and would like to keep him. so back to the original question.

where should i bat him in the line up (other than lead off) to minimize the damage?

Sometimes SOM players get too obsessed about things like GBAs and ballpark homers. Just go with the best player overall.
